All the details about Bank Zero's new debit card

The patent also stated that these card numbers could be implemented in combination, for example – the first card number could be a credit card number, the second a debit card number for online purchases, and the third a private card number for tap purchases only.
Lol really Capitec did it since 2016... The Capitec CC already is like that since it gives you access to all your accounts you get one card with a debit and credit card number. Nothing special here.

Does the Capitec card have multiple numbers on it? I only have the debit card.

If I understand B-Zero's card, it's got three different numbers, in the embossing, in the magnetic strip and in the chip, each with its own security features.

Yes and you can set limits for both.

Check how they spelled that cheque on the card

This doesn't make sense. What difference does it make to have 3 card numbers attached to one card? If your card is skimmed, they can still use your card at an ATM. Just because the magnetic strip's card number differs from the physical card doesn't mean that it works any differently.

Or is this just another badly researched and written article by this author?

My thoughts exactly... It's just 3 accounts linked to a card in different ways... All it means is that the account differs depending on what method the naughty people use to commit the card fraud.

This is called security by obfuscation. It is actually a very common method used by people who have no idea what they are doing.

Seriously though, can anyone please explain to me how this will deter card fraud? All three numbers are readily accessible.

This is a standard function of all EMV cards, but is not commonly used. One card can support many different "applications" and each of these can effectively be a different account.

They could have gone further and built a dedicated ecommerce card into their app and disabled ecommerce on their physical card, similar to Apple.
It's still a decent solution though

This. There's nothing new about this card. At all. Besides, all this info will be available on the card apps regardless of where it allocated (mag, chip, card face)

anyone using them, they seem to have gone radio silent?
I'm wondering that myself. Completely forgot about them!

The last post on their site: Bank Zero begins final countdown 13 November 2019

Bank Zero now begins its final countdown towards starting public operations in the first half of 2020

Not a good sign for a new bank to drop off the radar like that.
