we have 3 ADSL accounts with Dotco - all of which stopped working yesterday. I tried phoning them for over an hour and it just rang and rang - I eventually decided to DRIVE to their office to see what was going on...found the door padlocked and nobody there...

...I spoke to a cleaner in the building and she told me to speak to their upstairs neighbour. I was told something along the lines of "Johan's mother is visiting from PE, so he has probably closed up early to spend some time with her" (early being 10:30 am)

I had no idea that there was one person running this entire business! Has anybody else been experiencing problems? I tried to phone again today and no response. We still have about 40GB remaining altogether on our contracts - although I don't see us getting this back.

They have apparently closed down, you need to start looking for a new service provider.

Been wondering myself as some clients have the same problem.

Great - would have been nice of them to let us know.

Under normal circumstances I'm sure they would. They would also have gone to the trouble of selling the business off, or at the very least, there must be plenty isp's that would have been more than willing to take over his clients. SO this does not seem normal to me.

This dude pulled the plug and left the country in quite a hurry methinks ...:D

I wonder if it had anything to do with where he got such cheap bandwidth from for those nicely priced 30gig accounts :D

Yes back in the day allyoucaneat gave us a special of epic proportions, 30gb int for 199.00 :)

Some loop hole they found and exploited which was awesome. Pity they went down, they have receive a freakin noble prize for trying to help with being bandwidth starved :(

I understand many WISP's bought bandwidth from them, wonder what's going to happen now?

AllYoucanEat, I want my bandwidth

Ok, Neethi, thanks for willing to honour allyoucaneat's contracts, however I already signed up with Webafrica the day before yesterday (since they have my local account). I have 4 days left and a lot of bandwidth (not as much as some of you but enough for me to get really p--- about it). I paid for the said bandwidth, and I want to use it. I have no intention to sign up with SAOL, so if you are willing to honour my contract, please let me know and I will use SAOL for exactly 4 days before I terminate my account.

Also, I am contacting you now, so please share with us what happened to dotco, whether I contact you in private and post your response here, or you reply here, the message will still get out. What is the official position now on Dotco. Did they go under, or did they not.

So, please, let us know what happened to them, and how can I go about using my remaining bandwidth for the rest of the month.

Adios

The way I see it, you can't really get angry about the dotco thing, cause if you got 30gigs for R199, that is one hell of a bargain. There is only 4 days left of this month, if you have a company to run/support, get a prepaid account and start with a new ISP next month. Be thankful of the time you got the almost free BW. :D

The 30gig accounts have long ago been stopped. We were signed with them as well. Paid about R580.00 a month for 10gigs. Originally everything was hunky dorrie over there. Then they started having problems with staff. The US guy came over to come sort things out, however he was not prepared enough to deal with the bad work force and very restrictive labour laws we have in this country. For a while things went ok again and then he had to go back to the states for other commercial reasons. That is when the wheels came off the cart. His main techie here could not handle everything on his own. I really feel sorry for the guy as he had to really put out fires everywhere while the big boss left him all alone.

I only hassle i had was when we hit the middle of the month and you wanted to buy more bandwith online, the "instant online service" was not so instant. You still had to wait for them to add it on. We have moved over to AXXESS pay as you go. A bit more expensive, however it was just a question of changing usernames and passwords.

I am kinda in the same boat. Also would like to know what is going on here. I paid for “cap”, not with a sub clause that says I must no sign up with saol to get what I paid for.
If you pay for something and you do not receive it, it is called theft!
Is Saol in some kind of arrangement with Dotco? Or is Saol just jumping on the opportunity to make money in the long run. Do not get me wrong, it is great that someone is trying to take responsibility for the unethical behaviour of Dotco. But like stated above, I paid Dotco for a service/product, I am entitled to that service or product. Without the fine print.
