Dude its simple SAOL will honor their contracts with you guys but you need to sign with SAOL, why would SAOL lose money by honoring contracts and never getting any business.

I understand that fully. But also try and understand that I did not pay Dotco for a service or product subject to sign up with Soal when they decide to run when the going gets tuff.
Like I stated I am glad/happy someone is taking responsibility for this. I am not trying to make Saol bad, they are in fact the only isp that is willing/trying to do anything.

I have already signed up yesterday with axxess, so where does this put me? If I knew about this maybe yesterday, I maybe would not have sighned up with axxess. And as you can see, I also think most people did the same.

SAOL is merely offering Dotco's Customers a solution , and we are prepared to honour the existing contracts and any Gigs the customer is owed , provided that they signup with an account with SAOL. We feel it is very unfair that Dotco's Clients are in this situation, and we are offering an alternative , a working reliable solution with an established ISP being ourselves, that has been around for 12 years and counting. There is no hidden agenda.

We will honour All you can eat customers with the price they have been used to paying, on signup with an SAOL account. We might even save you a few rands :)

3 Gig All you can eat R 230.00 3 Gig SAOL R 228.00
5 Gig All you can eat R 357.00 5 Gig SAOL R 299.00
10 Gig All you can eat R 580.00 10 Gig SAOL R 499.00
15 Gig All you can eat R 870.00 15 Gig SAOL R 799.00
20 Gig All you can eat R 1,160.00 20 Gig SAOL R 999.00

Sorry bud but what isp limits saix bandwidth to your line speed unless its uncapped?

I have never seen any isp with:

5 gigs 384 for 299.00
5 gigs 512 for 399.00
5 gigs 4meg 699.00

Also is 1gb for int bandwidth not really expensive, is that shaped or unshaped?

SAOL and DOTCO

I would like to know the legal position on this. The way I see it, dotco owes me bandwidth for the remainder of the month without me having to commit to any other obligation nor enter any new contracts.

One of two things happened here.
1. There is a deal struck between SAOL / Dotco and no doubt with somebody exchanging money in the process. Or;
2. SAOL is using the DOTCO conundrum as marketing and writting off the dotco unutilised bandwidth for this month as sunken origination costs.

Number 1 above implies either dotco or SAOL (depending on the terms of the contract between SAOL and Dotco if it exists) not honouring my legal contract which I have signed with Dotco, while 2 implies SAOL is absuing this forum for selfish marketing purposes which is not allowed.

So SAOL, either one of two things is happening, you are using the dotco scenario for marketing your product and to obtain new clients on your books which from my understanding is prohibited on these forums, or some sale agreement occured and neither of the two companies are willing to honour my contract for the month of November. Which of the two terms are in you breach of?

If SAOL is honouring my existing contract with AllYouCanEat, then I am entitled to bandwidth for the remaining of the month from SAOL. Nowhere in my contract does it state that I am forced to enter into any new contract to receive bandwidth that I have already paid for.
For the record, I do not have a 30GB account at R130, I have a more realistic account whereby I am paying considerably more per GB.

My personal opinion, SAOL and others, are just using dotco to get additional clients on board, which it totally legit, barring the fact that it should be considered advertising on this forums which is / should not be allowed.

Anybody know if the debit order run for DOTCO will still commence the end of the month? Watch me get seriously p___ if that does happen.

Adios

I agree. Buy a banner or 2 from RPM and support MyBroadband ;)

You can tell the bank to put a hold on the debit order. That way if the run comes through it will be returned to the requesting bank.

DOTCO is where?

This is a problem with small operations. In today's economy, a lot more companies wil close their door. If you shop, shop reputable. Do not use the "new guy" on the block! You have been warned. We have seen this trand lately, payments are being delayed more and more.

A company is under no obligation to refund, offer support or offer any help if they closed shop due to difficulties. If the compnay has few assets, such as smaller companies, then your problem is worse.

Suppliers are paid first, and if anything is left over, it goes to the people who lost out.

It is unfortunate that DOTCO may have gone bust, I do not know, but many others will have the same fate.

And of course, support on services and equipment purchased elsewhere is fully chargeable by any new compnay that takes over (sorry, that is the reality we are in).

<Rant goes here>

The way I see it is that DOTCO is gone, SAOL have stepped up to the plate to offer those who were already in a contract with DOTCO (Yes, they are gone, so those who were in a contract currently do not have one) AND they have offered to give you your remaining bandwith which you still have left from All you can eat.

So basically I don't know why you're all complaining and making assumptions (except for the advertising, thats understood).

For one they're just offering an alternate, as well as another company who also advertised in this thread.

Purchase

I went to an auction sale about two weeks ago... there was a lot of network related stuff on sale. About 5 Dell servers were on sale, two of which were relatively new. I bought four of the servers. They were labeled :

chrome.dotco.net
fuchsia.dotco.net
brown.dotco.net
steel.dotco.net

I also paid R 125 excl VAT for a 48 port Dell hub and over 30 (!) ADSL modems (no idea what I'm gonna do with them).

Apparently the owner of the equipment had died (?) and the auction was part of winding up his estate.

I did a search for the domain name and found this thread. I figured it might be interesting(?)/closure to some of the people involved in this thread.

I too have been scammed by a mickey-mouse operator with a deal that was too good to be true (BINC).
