I barely ever claim from them so the other day I phoned to ask how much they would contribute for prescription glasses. IIRC the value came to R2800 even after I mentioned that I have about R12k in that savings account. I have to first pay the excess out of my own pocket and then basically plead with them to consider refunding me :/ Total BS

/returns hi-jacked thread

Hey guys,

Probably as a result of this thread I am getting quite a few PMs requesting suggestions for medical aids. I am happy to help where I can but please bear in mind a few things:

1. Ideally an adviser should sit with the client personally, or at least have a telephone conversation with them, to properly assess their medical aid needs and then recommend plans based on this. Even more ideally, an entire financial needs analysis should be performed.

2. This is my business*, and I do make a living off this, so unfortunately my "real world" clients will always have to get preference over online requests. Therefore I cannot always guarantee my response times to PM requests on here. This may sound cruel but unfortunately the truth of the matter is that advice will be given here and then you will probably use another broker to do the business anyway :) I am ok with this, to a degree, but again, it does mean I cannot prioritise requests that are made online here at the expense of "real" clients.

3. Slightly related to point 1 and 2 above, I do need to be cautious that I have remained compliant, with any advice given, at all times. Although I may innocently pass on some information, if you act on this I could possibly be held responsible.

So yeah, fire away with your queries but please understand any delays. If you are serious about actually doing something then feel free to PM me and we can arrange to communicate further. I trust none of this is against forum rules?

* Please note that this was something that I was not really keen to "expose" on here, due to the possibility of some then attaching more value, or not, to what I say, but it has probably become quite apparent to most anyway.

Discussed the Classic Comprehensive vs Classic Comprehensive Zero MSA with my financial advisor and other than self-funding the day-to-day expenses there is no real difference between the two. Remember that you need to change your plan before the end of this month.

Discovery, and I'm sure most other medical aids, allow you to downgrade at any time throughout the year but yes, if you want to upgrade you are only allowed to do so at the start of each year.

Hi everyone. I'm from the Sunday Times and I'm looking to chat people who have downgraded their medical aid. Please email me. monspostbox@gmail.com

Thanks.

And its not great putting your email address out there. Pose your questions, the pm the people who you have an interest in.

Otherwise people might find your your name is M****a L*********d , you have a liking for small insects and your unintentional tendencies to cause explosive situations where ever you go

Gonna do just that tomorrow, looking to combine my medical, life insurance & car insurance all through discovery to get the benefits as currently I'm at different places etc (if i'm worse off with Discovery I'm obviously not going to switch but doesn't hurt to find out..)

ClintZA where are you based?

I would like to do this and switch up a lot of stuff from Old Mutual to Discovery (if it makes sense) but I don't like the person assigned to me by Discovery.
