Amazon has postponed its South African marketplace launch

Curious. What would make them delay after announcing they were opening up shop?

Ah the long goodbye. "We're delaying it until later" ---> "Just a bit more delay. But it's coming." ---> "Just one more year. For reals this time. Promise." ---> "Remember that whole marketplace we've been delaying? Yea well that's not gonna happen. We don't know what we were thinking trying to do a thing in South Africa. The guy who suggested it has been let go. Too bad, so sad."

Well, if you look at how Takealot is expanding is warehousing and logistics, Amazon has probably had to readjust some strategies,
Here is CT, Takealot is already adding additional space to 2 brand-new buildings, one of which is not even operational yet! They have bought up land at a rate that boggles the mind.

I think they didn't get their marketing in order, I think they going to make their launch day an event so it will require loads of promotion.

Wonder if they going to have the suicide booths for helping the staff "relax" during punishingly hard shifts? Or if they'll be allowed toilet breaks?

do you work for Takealot?

No, but they are on broken limbs as well and I do not think they will last very long in its current form, if at all. Just take a look at their service delivery the past year and their decline, this is evident.

I don't know why people are excited about this. Amazon marketplace would just be the same products we see on Takealot sold in an Amazon branded box. If this was Amazon.co.za with a local warehouse, with goods which were imported at wholesale prices and therefore duties and cheap shipping, then maybe we'd see a wider selection and cheaper prices.

Have people not learnt that anything tech or telecoms related that are imment is South Africa means year

The Shell, Anglo American, BNP Paribas et al surrender has spooked them.

The R370 grant won't buy much from Amazon.
