Amazon is coming — Marketplace hiring spree in South Africa

Amazon appears to be committed to its plans to launch a South African marketplace, and the company is currently advertising 30 full-time positions in the country, a fair portion of which are marketplace-related.

The online retail giant is looking for a marketplace manager, B-BBEE programme manager, marketing head, ER and HR compliance manager, and several vendor managers.

Role: Technical Support Associate- Permanent
Job Type: Full time Contract
Location: Cape Town- CBD
Pay Rate: R 67.35 per hour
Entry level job I guess. Entry level pay. Amazon isn’t exactly known for generous salaries unless you work for AWS

My money is on Amazon acquiring Takealot and its infrastructure and rebranding. They’ve waited quite a while while Takealot got through its growing pains. Now as Takealot isn’t really profitable Amazon might just offer the investors a bit over what they invested to buy it outright.

I dunno, they're big enough to be geared to do their own thing. And they have their own flavor of site so they'd have to kill the Takealot brand.

You’ll get great BEE skillls for that. It’s about half of the minimum wage in the USA.

Don't worry you can just identify these days to whatever you need to be. If they need a dog just identify as a dog.

The world is full of mad nutters that will say alright we got a dog.

Haven't clicked through the individual roles, but would they all be CT based?

I think your money would be very unsafe.

Amazon do not look to be gearing for an acquisition but a complete ground up build of their solution.

Also why would they spend multiple billions to buy Takealot and then have to spend an inordinate amount of money and time integrating it into their systems? Makes more sense to build the logistics from the ground up and just deploy their own marketplace system into the country.

I can't see the competition commission green lighting that move.

Since Takealot is stuffed it might be worthwhile to buy it out at a bargain price.

Wouldn't mind getting some after hours/part time job - got all the infrastructure set up

Its stuffed?

Yeah I would 100% agree its not profitable at all, but stuffed? Yeah no, you're smoking your socks as usual.
Usually in normal economies not making money = stuffed. Takealot is completely stuffed, they completely failed even with no competition from Amazon. Now they will fail even more. I call that stuffed.

Usually its considerably more nuanced than you are able to understand it seems.

Takealot have been investing massively in their DC footprint over the last few years... its an investment that will only start to pay off in a few years even without an Amazon presence in this country.
