Initially AMD processors were cheaper than Intel, but I've heard that they are more expensive now? And how do they compare with regards to performance?

AMD are great, but its a cyclical thing. Intel are on top right now performance wise, AMD will make a comeback (with true quadcores I guess), then Intel will make a comeback.

Right now there is very little to choose between the two. Intel has the top performance but AMD still has the better value for money.

no it just means they'll be better set up for local marketing and communication with their distributors

Not what I heard from a friend who upgraded a couple of months ago; he said that Intel offered better value for money. Then again, its a constant tug of war so one has to make that evaluation when one is ready to buy!

Intel is king of the hill at the moment. They have the faster speeds, smaller dies's more energy efficient chips than AMD. Also they are the Goliath in the industry and hold more than 90% of the worlds market share. They started the price war that has left AMD bleeding so it has been very tough on them. Good for us as consumers though :D

I really like AMD's products and have supported them for years. I hope they able to rise out the ashes and kick Intel where it hurts once again.

I hope them opening a local branch is going to facilitate faster price cuts. We seem to lag the US by quite a margin. On Monday the 13th AMD is cutting their prices on Athlon 64 X2 4000+, 4200+ and X2 4400+ Let's see how long that takes to filter through to us?
