AMD Phenom Quad-Core 9500 CPU

just a word of advise

intel's q6600 which is more or less the same price owns this cpu

use it dont use it

i dont want to start a debate i just like amd more its all pesonal choice i dont care what people buy. just be glad there is 2 companies so that we can have a debate instead of a monopoly like telkom. so can we not turn this post into a debate and just help me with my question plz :)

ok i will look into it promise but tell me a good motherbord for it 2 but i still want advice on the amd as well plz

You can use any current AM2 board for this chip, there are some great value ones around.

You probably want to use a new AM2+ board with the 790FX chipset though, but I haven't seen many around and they will probably be very expensive as they come out.

If the performance difference isn't very big (doubt it is) I'd go for the much cheaper AM2 boards.

yeah thats what i thought i want the 790FX chipset but cant find 1 i need a new motherbord anyway so i wont mind spending alot for a bord but not sure if its better to go with a AM2 motherbord or the AM2+

yea i understand you like amd

i like them 2 but their quadcore is way over priced considering the pouning it gets from the q6600

there is no debate

if you want a quadcore thats more expensive then another the quadcore which pomps your amd thats your thing

go with am2+

The price might still come down. Stock has just arived and AMD is likely to cut prices some time I would imagine.

atm Q6600 is a better choice.

Q6600 FTW! Don't we sound like a broken record:p

Let the man buy the AMD, we need AMD to sell stuff aswell so there is still competition for Intel! Well sort of...but i agree with you in that AMD must stop dragging it's feet!

zen i would let him buy amd but amd have come out with a quadcore that is priced the same as the q6600

this quadcore is the slowest in the amd quadcore range
there fastest struggles to beat intels slowest quadcore

so if their fastest quadcore cannot beat intels slowest imagine how badly amd's slowest does

this quadcore should have been about 50 dolla less then i would say good deal

you cannot price your quadcore the same as intel if it gets crushed

Q6600 :) lol I am surprised that Intel did not release a Q6400 ;) for $50-$70 less to crush AMD... :D Im sorry but AMD has lost the CPU race...

*Can you Imagine if intel made for example a Q2160 :) 2.0Ghz Quad core w/ 4Mb cache [1 x 4] :) just like the E2160!!*

If you dont currently have a AM2 motherboard i'd suggest go with Intel too, it would be cheaper and faster.

I got a nvidia 570 motherboard AM2 so I will go to AMD quad core when i upgrade, cheapest option...

I would do the same thing, plus those 570's are nice chipsets.. well feature-wise.

By early next year there will be tri-core chips and higher clocked Quads driving prices down. I'd wait for that.

If I were you, I would hope not. Just watch the prices spiral upwards if AMD goes away.

Everyone acts like AMD is sitting there in an office saying, lets build something cr_p and inferior to Intel. The simple fact is that they are not there because they want to be there. I am sure they are doing everything they can to be more competitve but even when the compare favourably on price/performance all of you guys start talking about how they are being destroyed on the top end.

Everyone should look simply at the price/performance that suits their budget. If the AMD is better bang for your buck, then get it. If you want the top end and are willing to fork out the massive prices there ($1000+) for a CPU, then go for the Intel. Take a look at what Intel is currently charging for their quads (minimum $323) whereas AMD top of the range is currently $279. If Intel (and vNidia) are getting away with charging massive prices now on some models, can you imagine what will happen if there is no AMD. AMD will become competitve again or they will be gone. Lets hope it's the former. In the mean time, support AMD when it makes sense.

Cheapest Core 2 Quad with VAT from suppliers is about R2400. Cheapest Phenom is about R2400 with VAT too...

According to Pricewatch the Intel Core2Quad Q6600 retails for $279 ;)

Obviously prices have changed a bit since I last looked :)

What really scares me is that they have 3 processors over the $750 mark. Thats a serious amount of money to pay for a CPU.

The problem with the SA market is that Intel is much more competitive here. Perhaps thats something AMD should look at. From the prices you gave, if one needs to buy a MB and Processor then the Intel would come out trumps. If you already have a AMD MB then it's probably a tighter call. Personally I would still get the AMD because at least there is more chance that in 5 years, the CPU would still be affordable.
