Hi Guys,

I stay in a complex in Parkwood/Rosebank area in Joburg. After 8 months of being on 3G here I am pretty sick and tired of it. Doesnt look like telkom will be bringing fixed line access here any more so looking into other solutions.

I used to run on an uncapped ADSL line and downloaded about 80GB a month, primarily usenet (queued via sickbeard and sabz) but also some xbox live. I would like to go back on something similar and was wondering what everyone's perceptions of Amobia uncapped are? I just read a forum that insinuated theyve gone a bit down hill and started throttling everything. Is this problem fixed?

Does anyone else have any ideas to solve the problem of internet here?

Have no problems. They do throttle torrents heavy. Since they resell mweb accounts the mweb news server works. HTTP downloads work at full throttle. Get 240KBs on downloads on 2mb line.

Would you know if any of the other news servers work?

I had tried a few of the free ones since it allows two connections at 1mb and it seemed to work fine. Haven't tried in a while though. If you give me some addresses I can provide some trace routes. But no guarantees on speeds though.

I also have question regarding amobia. Does anybody use them with a XBMC setup? How good (bad) would streaming be on a 1 meg line?

Unfortunately can't answer that, as I don't use XBMC

Hi There,
You could always see who elsse is in your area. www.wapa.org.za is the local organisation that can assist you.
What I always look at is how current is the website. Amobia's news is 3 years old. Not saying that they are not good but I like to look at the little details that show they are active in the market.

Regards

Tim

True. And there website and customer portals are seriously aged. Speeds are good and customer support is top notch. Most issues sorted pretty quick.

I used to be an Amobia client. Pitty I can't get them now. Had great service from them and great support! There is no one else I would recommend. I tried some of the other, while I was still staying in Midrand, but Amobia was the best!
