While the rest of te tax paying citizenry has to pay for everything, the ANC is finally publicly admitting to some of the stuff that is free for the rest of the population:

From http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/Politics/0,,2-7-12_2476798,00.html :

Xaba then goes on to list the ANC's accomplishments which he's grateful for: schools, clean water, houses, free electricity and medical clinics.
This is an open invitation for everybody to claim their free stuff.
As of right now, nobody must pay for their electricity anymore.

(If this article is to be believed)

Present in the audience for the launch of the ANC advert was ANC National Executive Committee members Jeff Radebe, Gwede Mantashe, Ayanda Dlodlo, Lindiwe Zulu, as well as Minister of Communications Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri.
An ill informed reporter?

Yea, we all know about the 60KL or free water, but the free electricity is new.

That would be 6KL not 60KL. :)

On 30 April 2008, Judge M.P. Tsoka in the High Court of South Africa ruled, amongst other things, that:

· The City of Johannesburg's implementation of a pre-payment water system in Phiri in Soweto was unconstitutional and unlawful, and that the City must give households the option of a credit meter;
· Limiting free basic water to 6kl per household per month (25 liters per person per day on the assumption of 8 people per household) was reviewable, and that the City of Johannesburg must give each person 50 liters of free water per person per day

Well I still get my free units of electricity every month. My brother in law is a senior engineer at Kriel Power Station and he was visiting over the weekend - he could not believe that I was getting free units until I bought some power to show him.

Well 50 units aint much but that 600 units a year

The free units were introduced for a number of reasons, the main reason being to get services to the poor as priority and possibly in my opinion to allow Councils to create utility accounts for people who essentially are living below the bread line and do not possibly have a formal house or fixed address. Whether they pay these bills or not is another matter.

In retrospect we are a country of Social benefits in many forms. What other option is there?
I would like to get everyone working and off their derrières. Wouldn't that be nice!
Government should look into Social Grants where mothers are abusing the systems in my opinion by giving birth to numerous babies just to be able to claim a extra grant. Heard of some horror stories where these mothers get paid the welfare grant and go straight to the bottle store to get drunk while the child is suffering malnutrition.

The saddest part is that people are still going to vote for this useless excuse for a political party.

John Robbie was talking about
his flight back from Dbn on Monday.
He mentions how there are houses all over
the former rural areas with electricity and free water.
The people who vote for the anc believe they would not have been able to get all this were it for the anc... and who can blame them, they lived for decades under the other government and all they got was teargas & states of emergency. so these people have zero reason not to vote for the anc. your requirements and mine of the anc are a bit different. you got to give to the anc for understanding this

Give the ANC understanding? [I am not even going to touch on the grammatical error's in that statement.] How do you suppose I understand the POV of a political party that endorses monkey's such as JM, etc.

give it to the anc obviously
but i digress, what i mean to say (which you completely miss) is that the anc is shrewed to realise where its bread is buttered (so to speak)...

Just sad the masses does not know what could have been possible if for example the DA was leading SA.

And unfortunately most of the voters actually believe that they can get things free.

Well that's what FREE means, ne? :)

Yeah it's stupid but the freedom from apartheid in 1993 became free stuff for supporters, with non-supporters having to pay.
