Indeed, I don't recall ANC complaining when my area(like so many others experience weekly around the country) doesn't come back on after load shedding due to sub station problems etc. Longest I had was 16hour straight. This '10hour' outage is nothing more than stage 3 for a lot of us in JHB(although, credit where credit is due, have not had that in a long time, but schedules are there and it is coming again over winter)

Parts of Randburg were recently cut off for more than 30 hours on two occasions. That's OK, of course.

And you are 100% correct. But if we don't start soon, like next elections, SA is lost forever.
The ANC promised the world for Votes. And have delivered little.

It is going to take a lot to fix the mentality they have etched into their Soweto residents of "free electricity"....

The ANC have basically stuffed all up with the "enrichment for cadres" principle. Fat cats get fatter and the poor stay dumb. And hungry.

One hell of a hard rocky road ahead to fix this.

Some of us are of the opinion that SA is lost already. There's no way to really fix the mess the ANC created, not with willing citizens more so not with these entitled idiots who love chaos.

I think the next election is going to be pretty interesting. ANC is actually pretty nervous about retaining support so they have to go "Oh no our dear voters. This is terrible!"

Never mind most of their voters live in absolute poverty. They don't seem to be too upset about that...

So cut all the rest of by loadshedding and it's all ok and justified. Cut Soweto off for loadshedding and it's all insensitive and all hell breaks loose. Strange that it was not called racism or SowetoPhobia?

Freaking brainless ANC idiots!

How is it possible that the ANC can support non-payment of services? Do they want to create an environment where everyone expects things for free?
Going so far to say that they (ANC) will hold rallies to prevent power interruptions in Soweto will just fuel other parts of the country to demand the same.

The ANC is really disappointing in handling the situation properly.

If you've been paying all your electricity bills but your municipality hasn't been paying Eskom so you get cut off by Eskom, you'd be OK with that?

No, I wouldn’t be okay with Eskom cutting my power if my account is paid. The power was however not cut as a result of non-payment but as part of Eskom’s loadshedding program. Although it is very inconvenient I understand that it is necessary to protect the system from collapse and everybody should do their part to help.

Got to love this. The ANC cut the people off and then they moan about the people being cut off. When do they blame it on apartheid?

Yes, I’m upset that the ANC is condoning non-payment of services.

I'm asking specifically because I don't understand how you're surprised.

Soweto is filled with people who vote for them. Of course they're going to take their side. They can't turn on the people keeping them in power.

We know that, but this is the first time that they've actually admitted to it hurting their votes. Why is nobody taking them to task for this? Why is Soweto so special that Eskom is being 'insensitive', yet it's not insensitive when it happens to the rest of us?

Despite the fact that only 16% of Sowetans pay their Eskom accounts, the utility has kept the lights on in South Africa's biggest township.
???
So here we have an area, where 83% of the residents do not pay their Eskom accounts, yet the power is kept on for them ???

The only sensitive the ANC are thinking of is "politically sensitive" not humanitarian.
