LOL so proud of their handiwork , look at them cutting the barrier tape as a grand opening.

I prime example of how the ANC operates, at least this project actually produced something, even if it cost about 5 times what it should have.
They probably are very proud; R5m or so in their back pockets + R3m for the opening ceremony paid to a communications / catering / security company owned, just by chance, by relatives of the ANC Big Men (and Women) present. SOP.

5 times?

I would put the number close to 30 or 40 times what it should have, and even at that I'm being stupidly generous.

I'm actually surprised they didn't throw R100 notes into the crowd as confetti, to celebrate their achievement,
maybe even stapled to a Vote ANC flyer, to emphasis the point.

if you ever want to know where the tax increases on everything go to, this is a look inside their minds.
vanity and pet projects like this.

Is there any evidence that they did actually build those things though?

I wonder a couple of things..

1. What the tender for this looks like and what it includes. It always starts there.. then what the other bids for this looked like. Ie was the order not fulfilled or specs just pathetic.
2. Which “company” did this for that amount.
3. Was there a pay off.. Ie you need to have a look at the itemized bill and see how it was constructed.. “consultant fees”? Or just big fat bill..
4. Who signed off vendor, procurement contract, and final delivery.
5. Lifestyle audits of all involved and extended family.

But this being SA people likely just cry about and do bugger all.. the Sa way because voters. In the mean time there is a lot that can be done and info readily available.. I wonder where the opposition is in all of this too.. then why am I bothering asking this.. they usually let the **** hit the fan then cry about it after.. again the SA way.

It's all a farce. The billions stolen by cadres, they don't get audited. But holy ****... you make a mistake on your tax you get criminal record. Ugh.. Well.. the ANC runs the country/SARS.. they won't go after their comrades.

Nothing will change until we see prison sentences for cadres flouting the PFMA rules...oh wait, the PFMA accounts only to political parties and only the political parties are able to instruct the SIU/Police to investigate potential criminal activities.

It's like our constitution - written with the best intentions at heart but can be manipulated by those that only look out for themselves. We need to deal with corrupt people like Singapore did post colonialism:
https://www.jstor.org/stable/44289154
https://datascience.iq.harvard.edu/files/gov2126/files/quah_singapore.pdf -> excerpt below;
Lesson 1: The political leadership must be sincerely committed to the eradication of corruption. They must demonstrate exemplary conduct, adopt a modest life-style, and avoid indulging in corruption themselves. Anyone found guilty of corruption must be punished, regardless of his/her position or status in society. If the `big fish' (rich and famous) are protected from being prosecuted for corruption, and only the `small fish' (ordinary people) are caught or executed (as is the case in China and Vietnam), the anti-corruption strategy will lack credibility and is unlikely to succeed.

Lesson 2: To combat corruption effectively, comprehensive anti-corruption measures must be employed as incremental measures will not suffice. An effective comprehensive anticorruption strategy consists of comprehensive anti-corruption laws and a non-corrupt and autonomous anti-corruption agency. The anticorruption legislation must be comprehensive to prevent loopholes and must be periodically reviewed to introduce relevant amendments whenever required.

Lesson 3: The anti-corruption agency (ACA) must itself be incorruptible. To ensure this, it must be controlled or supervised by a political leader who is incorruptible. The ACA must be staffed by honest and competent personnel.
