This is hilarious!

The fact that there is something tangible to show for this is basically an improvement in my eyes.

You get what you vote for; no sympathy for these fools.

Meh.

I built an astroturf hockey pitch with palisade fencing, floodlights, a grass embankment and a small club house for a school back in 2004. Plus some high pressure water reticulation.

R2.5 Million.

Seems like the taxpayer got screwed here for that field.

Back then I could have done this field for under a Million.

Looks like basic earthworks, some grass, maybe some water reticulation and a fence.

Contractor just bought himself a new car I think.

How much would a proper athletics track cost? Just the track, excluding additional amenities.

Depends.

If its a simple gravel atheltics track and your earthworks are straightforward (not too much cutting and filling) ballpark a million.

Grass roughly the same.

If you go up to Tartan (not familiar with what this costs now) but probably around R10 Million as you need multiple layers of materials to make it up.

Borehole, maybe the guy who got the tender for the grass had no time to wait for that and he went ahead and planted, whoever was supposed to do the watering when the borehole was ready did not bother.
I see this ALL the time with new houses. The contractor throws down the roll-on lawn and fuks off. House not even sold or occupied.
In the CPT summer with it's South Easter, that lawn is completely dead within a week.

Pointless as new owner technically pays for that lawn but has to replace everything once he moves in.

But I digress...

Lol, how much did they pay the rent-a-crowd?

Edit: At least now they have another sh@t hole stadium so the people can come and listen to their empty promises.

Good for him - he's presumably not running a charity. It's the duty of the authority to reject absurd quotes, how many of them got a new car (probably from the contractor).

I think the 1/2 size astroturf hockey pitch my kid's school put in a couple of years ago cost more than R2.5 mil.
