No, tibby is right... it is overlooked.

It is good that he was expelled, BUT what about the others (eg Her Nosiopness) continuing to drag the country down and not getting expelled?

A case of double standards at work?

Rather strange that nobody mentioned this but then when the govt does something right it is not worthy of discussion on here because it does not fit the perceptions of them ??? ;).
[-]Conflicting reports I guess with this discussion from the 9th where the Sunday Times article claimed "ANC whip cleared of sex claims". http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=60752

Rather strange that you didn't say anything then :p[/-]

Of course the DA had something to say -
So what happens if he should be found to be not guilty?

That thread was not about Goniwe.

Yes, of course they had something to say - but as usual it was just stirring the pot. Goniwe took leave after the allegations were made, it was his own decision. The DA's concern for Goniwe is touching.

You're absolutely correct - I never considered there would be 2 different ANC whips up on sexual harassment charges at the same time.

Of course they had something to say - but because it's their job as the opposition.

However the article I quoted says he was
That's a bit different than your terminology which makes it sound voluntarily.

Firstly, my congratulations to the ANC for acting. We so often accuse the ANC, so it is nice to see when something is done.

Secondly, IMO it seems as if sexual crimes are considered much greater in magnitude than corruption/theft crimes in SA. For example, look at the reaction to the Zuma case, Zuma was under far more threat from the rape accusation. Perhaps this is because of the demographic breakdown in parliament. With close to 50% female representation, any sexual crime would go totally against at least half of parliament. Corruption seems to be more acceptable, sadly.

personally i believe there should be a law against career politicians.

I would hope so. Rape, your example, is a violent, physical and mental assault, against a person - it needs to be dealt with in an urgent manner.

Agreed. However, rape is one case of sexual harrasment (the most extreme). I was generally talking about less extreme cases, for example overly suggestive behaviour or open sexual suggestions in inappropriate circumstances. I have no objection to the handling of rape and feel that it is more urgent on a personal level than corruption. However, the committing of either crime makes a person unfit to be a public representative, and in that regard it should be dealt with equally. What I am saying is that rape should lead to a quick arrest, but both corruption or rape should lead to resignation (or firing).
