And what will happen if the EFF refuses both the ANC and the DA's courtship?

How will a decision be reached then or will the city remain in limbo for the next 5 years?

If the EFF abstain from voting the ANC will be able to elect the next mayor and they will be able to run the city.

As I understand the process, JHB is a hung council at the moment. A coalition needs to be formed that results in the 136 seats required in the next 14 days. If not, JHB is going to be chaotic for the next 5 years. The only way out of such a problem is to call for a new election in JHB.

So, we have to wait for another 14 days to see what will happen.

A new election could be very interesting IF, the 40 or so percent of voters who did not vote get off the collective backside and do the right thing ....

A new election can only be called after two years have passed since the council was elected and only when two thirds of council members support a motion to that effect.

Okay, in the event that a coalition does not materialise, we could see 2 years of great difficulty in getting contentious issues through the Council.

The EFF could really make things very difficult for everyone, should they choose to follow a party line instead of thinking about what is good for the people in an area.

Either way, no one can say things are going to be boring on the political front anymore.
