ANC kills probe into emergency power tender

The ANC has backtracked on its own proposal to probe South Africa's plan to procure emergency power following a court ruling in favour of the biggest contributor in the programme — Turkish company Karpowership.

Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources and Energy had previously proposed an inquiry into the entire Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (RMIPPPP), first announced by the government in 2020.

If a party can kill a probe, why can't a nothing party start a new one, with endless scope? Probes can be done privately as well.

I'm mixed about this.
On one hand we know it was fraught with corruption.

But as I sat with no power last week, I realized whatever solution we get will be fraught with corruption. If those ships were allowed to dock we might have been able to be angry at corruption WITH the lights on...

It's amazing what a little bit of loadshedding can do to sway our parliamentary decision makers.

Spineless cnuts.

This has nothing to do with the LS tbh, and everything to do with trying to bury the details of these deals...

I still personally doubt Karpowership will ever put a ship in one of our harbours, there is almost no way that the corrupt twats on both sides of this deal have been good enough to cover all legal bases.

Yes, sure there was and still is a lot of corruption with Karpowership. My point is that loadshedding was used as a sweetner to convince them to shelve the probe/s.

I for one sincerely hope so, the impact on the environment will be devastating, particularly PE.

The environmental impact will be devastating at all 3 locations.... no more so in any one location in my opinion.

At what price to you? It's all good and well having the lights on, but not when you're paying through your arse for it to fund corruption...

I am quite familiar with the environmental process, but it seems to be an oversight that nobody mentioned how a ship rots just sitting in the bay.

Yes, and then there's a risk of it sinking, right there in the harbour. But I am extremely confident that Bomo Edith Edna Molewa, Fikile and Patricia have it all covered.

The DA was the only party on the committee to vote for the probe to continue, while the EFF abstained and other opposition parties were not in attendance.
One wonders if any of the opposition parties really give a damn?

I am no fan of the DA - but right now, they seem to the only ones addressing issues of concern.
