Multi-party democracy and the proportional electorate system gained a huge victory yesterday in northern KwaZulu-Natal. During a special meeting of the City Council of Newcastle, the ANC mayor as well as the ANC deputy-mayor was dismissed from their post through a motion of no-confidence which was supported by various political parties. This was done in the interest of the communities of Newcastle.
It was made possible through the cooperation of a number of opposition parties who were lead by the IFP. With this action the importance of our proportional electoral system as well as the central principles of the South African regime i.e. that we are a multi-party democracy, was once again emphasized. It was a privilege for the FF Plus to participate in this action and the FF Plus would like to make use of this opportunity to heartily congratulate the new IFP mayor of Newcastle.
The FF Plus' representative on the City Council of Newcastle, Mr. Jaap Smit, will at a more suitable time request that an investigation is launched into the financial management of the ANC's administration in Newcastle since the municipal election in 2006.
