It's a stupid idea.
Was Coal Daddy Gwede's suggestion... Not maintaining and improving Eskom, but just creating another Eskom.
They can't even keep one Eskom working correctly, how the **** are they going to manage it with two?

The man is delirious.
His address is flawed in so many ways.
Totally in denial about his own criminal activity.
Blames state capture, while he was basically overseeing it.
Punts new NHI (as a measure to influence masses) - but no concept of funding.

You might be on to something here.
All the ministers been acting outrageously or made outlandish statements the past couple of months.
Touch of "long Covid" maybe?

How hard is it to just allow large scale generation above 1000MW.

This problem solves itself, government just has to get out of the way FFS. Eskom needs competition for sure, but it needs to be as far away from this government's control as possible.

You're talking about Gweezy here, how would he fund his retirement if government got out of the way?

now I do have questions, but I can't see our state create an entity to compete with an identical state entity because that would mean that the cadres, and more cadres, would also need to compete.
It's the exact opposite of that. The conflict is now, because there's only one Eskom and too many cadres to feed. By creating another, no matter which SOE loses, all cadres win...

LOL true.

This entire "plan" stems from Gwede's recent push to distance himself from culpability in this Eskom disaster. Implying the current state of our new generating capacity lies solely with Eskom and not with the government. So if we just create a new Eskom all will work out fine.

Except his recent push is doomed to failure given the legislative structure he operates under. He is solely responsible for the lack of new generation capacity coming online.

Uhm Denel, Transnet, Eskom, Education Dept, Healthcare, yip everything government touched has collapsed.

How about offering private companies the change to compete with Eskom directly?

Then we may see progresss

We know that. He knows that. What matters is what the average South African of voting age knows.

If the average voter knows it's not his fault then it's a success. Whether it's a lie or not. I feel like Eskom2.0 is just an extension of this "it's not government's fault" narrative.

I think this is a great idea... If the ANC can pay for it out of their own pockets, they can run it however they like.

But in all seriousness, they broke every single SOE. Eskom. The post office. Denel. Transnet. Prasa. Etc. Now they want to add another one to that list?

ANC wants a ‘second Eskom’ to be introduced in South Africa: report

The ruling African National Congress is considering the formation of a second state-owned power utility to challenge Eskom's monopoly in the country, says president Cyril Ramaphosa.

This is the same as their renaming shenanigans, just with extra steps. Lots of juicy cadre tenders to put out for the new building to lease, uniforms to make, advertising to market, IT to put in, consultants to consult, power generation to build, etc, etc, the list goes on.

Funny that, considering China also has load shedding.

Almost as if central planned economies have problems that are very difficult to solve.

Well that's only 4 out of like 31 provinces, so in terms of modularity it's ok (until they all start failing). Same as when the texas power grid failed, didn't kill off the rest of the usa.
