ANCLY ask Nicki Minaj to pay back 10mil deposit

PRETORIA – The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Tshwane says it has written to American singer Nicki Minaj’s management, asking her to pay back the R10 million deposit she received from the City of Tshwane to appear at the TribeOne Dinokeng Festival in Cullinan.

The three-day event was shelved last month after organisers pulled out, blaming the City of Tshwane for not providing adequate facilities.

R65 million was spent on the festival, R10 million of which was paid as a non-refundable deposit to Minaj.
The ANCYL in Tshwane says the American rapper has a duty to herself to pay back the money.

The league's Lesego Makhubela says the US singer should do the right thing and donate the money to charity.

“She knows that she hasn’t worked for the money and there are many charities that she can donate the money to. We don’t want taxpayers’ money to be used on boob jobs."

The league also wants city manager Jason Ngobeni to resign and Tshwane Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa to apologise for misusing public money.
They’ve branded TribeOne a music festival aimed at impressing imperialist forces, instead of providing essential services.

Meanwhile, mayoral spokesman Blessing Manale has described the calls as baseless and accused the ANCYL of trying to gain popularity around this contentious issue.

Remember the R10 mil just doesn't go Nicki, it goes to her whole team of dancers, musicians, wardrobe, travel expenses etc.
Honestly Nicki doesn't have to give back the money. She was booked in for this concert and most likely had to clear a huge chunk of her schedule to travel to South Africa and not do any shows in the states, her team are probably still expecting to get paid as well.

Poor attitude, her team will never reconsider on such a remark. If they donate, it won't be to something which the ANCYL can state it is their donation money.

The ANCYL should rather pay their back outstanding entertainment bills and remedy their own abused security deposits.

If they can't organise a show properly, they shouldn't be booking apparent "A list" talent and get all upset when the show doesn't happen than the "star" keeps the deposit.
