In this country we have freedom of speech and expression so they can say what they want to

I think it is a brilliant plan to rename everything...NOT.

So the whole world knows about the Union Building, Soweto, Robben Island, etc. Rename them, confuse the hell out of the world and stop the tourists. Who needs their foreign currency? I mena they come becuase they love the horror stories - this is the Union Building, the seat of the evil empire - or whatever. Can you imagine the tourist brochures - Come to Sunny South Africa - go on a tour of famous landmarks like the Walter Sisulu buildings in Tshwane. The what? In where?

People don't come here to see how things are all nice and rosey - they come to see the stories about the dark past (and the wildlife).

Seriously - leave it as it is and make the money. Add a dungeon and a torture chamber to the Union Buildings. That'll be good for a few more bus loads of tourists.

Also, isn't is a historic building? Can you rename those?

I think the ijits in the ancyl work to 'there is no such thing as bad publicity' rule.

People can say what they want to, but if a branch of the ANC says something the natural assumption is that their statement is endorsed by the ANC. If its not they should distance themselves.

tourists come to see South Africa, most for the wildlife, and open spaces. If they do come to hear horror stories then it's the stories from the past, AFAIK no monuments have been renamed - tourists still visit the Voortrekker Monument etc. catch a wake up dude, I can tell you that the average tourist does not care what the name of a building or city is, as long as they get to see it. For the people of the country though it has great significance

so stop trying to use the tired, useless, old argument of tourists won't know where they are or what they are seeing as it holds no water - place names have been changing for a while now, and all the while the number of tourists visiting steadily increases

And now for something a bit off topic; who wants to start a bid angelo will reply with something along the lines of it should be changed then there will be a response to what angelo said and angelo wont reply to that question.

Edit: not a personal attack on angelo just an observation of how threads have been going :D

I will give you odds that is what is going to happen.

But that is the way him and his kind were operating all these years.
Throw a stone from behind something and run like hell.

Angelo is always making snotty remarks and then disappear.

When I ask my dog a question he responds. He shakes his tail. It is more that I can say for Angelo.

I supose it takes all kinds.

And they have, but like all branches of the ANC they operate as individual entities, and are entitled to their own viewpoints and opinions - but I suppose people in this forum people do not understand how democratic organisations work

make your argument, if you want to personally attack someone, PM them. In response, imagine how pathetic you and your kind were who gave away power to people who " threw a stone from behind and ran like hell "

out of character ? hardly, sounds like the same old racist bigotry to me, how dare you say the African people have no culture - ignorant ramblings from a moron

They may have culture. Sure they have. Slaughtering animals on Durban's beaches?

Further what have they established, built or whatever that they can name and really call it their own?

Don't pull a Angelo on us. Answer.

The government (anc) who fought for democracy doesnt even know how democracy works  look at the situation in cape town when the anc lost to the da, anc members were throwing bricks at Hellen Zille litterally. Then the anc tried to remove her from her position.

Cant wait till the day the anc split and we can have better opposition in government.

The previous govt built stuff, and then left us fifty years behind the rest of the world, the new govt. came in and we leapfrogged and were brought into the light - the reason that we are on this forum can be attributed to the new govt,

oh yes, and Nelson Mandela bridge, constitutional hill, SALT telescope, etc, etc

The copped cable that makes it possible is older than 12 years though :D :p

If the previous government was that bad... then why are we so much more advanced than all the other African countries?

I'm sorry, please explain?

I still think that where we are today is definetly not the doing of the new government.

Please elaborate on why you disagree? (if you can). I'm not saying that the ANC is all bad, but you are saying that the previous goverment were all bad.

(and only the Sith deal in extremes)

I did not say the previous govt was all bad - If you noticed I said they built stuff.

If it were not for our transition to democracy, we would have still been shunned by the rest of the world and would not therefore have seen the technological advances that we see and use today
