I did not say the previous govt was all bad - If you noticed I said they built stuff.

If it were not for our transition to democracy, we would have still been shunned by the rest of the world and would not therefore have seen the technological advances that we see and use today

Stuff like:
1. The Union buildings
2. Voortrekker monument
3. Jan Smuts Airport
4. Pretoria
5. Potchefstroom
6. Warmbad
7. etc.

According to the above technology did not exist before 1994, including:
1. Telephones
2. Motorcars
3. Electricity
4. Rooivalk attack helicopter
5. Rooikat tank
6. etc.

We are indeed glad that the new government plugged us out of the dark ages. Heck, they even gave us the wheel.

The previous govt built stuff, and then left us fifty years behind the rest of the world, the new govt. came in and we leapfrogged and were brought into the light - the reason that we are on this forum can be attributed to the new govt,

oh yes, and Nelson Mandela bridge, constitutional hill, SALT telescope, etc, etc

Fifty years behind the rest of the world? Remember that a great deal of our technology was developed under apartheid because of our need to become self-sufficient. In many of these instances these lead to new technologies being developed (Think: Sasol's Coal-to-liquid technology, Pebble Bed Reactor and Rooivalk - I'm sure other more knowlegable forumites will be able to complete the list). What was lacking was the opportunity to export these technologies due to sanctions, and in some instances the inability to get required technology from overseas. I attribute a lot of our current growth to technologies and skills gained during our isolation in apartheid, which we are now able to export.

Just some info on Sasol

How Nazi Germany and apartheid South Africa perfected one of the world's most exciting new fuel sources.

When it comes to racial policies, it may be somewhat hyperbolic to say that the apartheid regime that came into power in South Africa in 1948 picked up where the Nazis left off. It's not at all hyperbolic to observe that the apartheid regime picked up where the Nazis left off when it came to producing gasoline from coal. Nazism, apartheid, and international sanctions created a fuel source that might never have existed in a better world.

One presumes that after naming JIA after Ollie Tambo SAA named their new Low Cost Airline after our Minister of Health.

How have we leapfrogged? exactly? you say "the reason we are on this forum can be attributed to the new gvt." that made me chuckle, this website was started to highlight the ineptitude of Telkom and S.African telecommunications as a result of Government bungling their brilliant managed liberalization plan. So i suppose you're right, we're all here in protest though.

We have the most expensive telecommunications in the world, 3x as expensive as the next most expensive. Sounds like we more then 50 years behind the rest of the world to me.

You think you've got problems!

Have a look at this outrageous plan I have for my mobile phone in Canada:

Unlimited evenings and weekends starting at 6PM
Unlimited anytime calling between my phone and my wife's phone
Unlimited high speed EVDO mobile internet access
Call display, voice mail, MP3, camera, video, etc, etc

They have the nerve to charge me CAN$35 per month (R225.00)

They also have the nerve to want to charge me another $10.00 per month to add Television.

The pricing here is OUTRAGEOUS!

When are they going to lower it?

And don't forget that the workforce was mainly black and grossly underpaid and mistreated.

Nobody forced them to work. There is always a choice. You get paid according to market related salaries. Since there was no problem getting labour, the salaries was on the low side. More scarce skills will always pay better.

There is always exceptions to how people were treated, and that was true across the board.

Problem here is that they want to name a building which could at any stage be occupied by any political party after a former vice president member of the current incumbent party
