attention seeking whores with no savvy whatsoever, nothing more.

How come then that they're about to get their man as president? How come they now rule the ANC and soon the entire country? Toti will eventually be renamed after Zondo. ;)

Remember a swarm of ants can take down anything :p

True... Unfortunately, I haven't seen any white ants ever - I think this metaphore is incorrect. There is no elephant, just a helluva lot of mindless ant worker drones...

Albereth : My guess is those schools didn't have names before that because they were called that when they were built.

Hmmm - Think I might rename my house to Wouter Basson Cottage or Casa Eugene De Kok.

Yeah - I guessed as much, so it isn't exactly the same thing is it?

Hell, if they want to honour any loser by naming a new town after him they can go for it.

I have my own ideas on how to do this and make a bit of money in the process. A little doll that you can hang from your rearview mirror with a label "I went to 'Toti and had a blast" with 'Toti scratched out and Zondo written there.

Oops, the ANCYL were 'misquoted' again.

The front page of the local Amanzimtoti paper has reported that the ANCYL were 'misquoted' and they never said that they wanted to change the name to Zondo.

They really are lying attention whores!

Something wrong with your mentality? Or do you support the ANC overlords and their minions (ANCYL)? The writing is against the wall.

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a parody post, but I'll bite anyway. I was trying to point out the hypocrisy in this thread (and the previous one). If you are really serious about reconciliation, you surely cannot criticise the ANC for wanting to name places/streets/schools after people who they consider important when the previous government did exactly the same thing. Verwoerd & co. caused incredible suffering for a huge number of people in this country. This is a fact. Despite this there are still many institutions that carry the names of apartheid figures. If you are not just blatantly racist, I would like to see some outrage regarding this as well, and not just knee-jerk reactions when things don't go your way.

And no, I don't support the ANC "overlord" or their "minions" at all. (BTW: Politics is not an RPG.) The stupidity on display in this thread just p issed me off.

Edit:
Um, thats about a school being renamed and this is about a town
You're an idiot.

Ok 500SE... Naming new places after something is one thing, renaming places is a different story.

How? If name my existing house "White People Suck" (for example) this will offend you, but if I build a new house and name it "White People Suck" this would be fine with you? We are talking here about place names that are offensive. This is not a discussion of financial policy. You will notice that the thread title refers to a terrorist, not reckless spending.

From what I understand, you're claiming that because the old government did it, the new government can do it too? Two wrongs make a right?

I don't see the issue, half of SA is named after thick racist bastards. A bit of balance would be good.

stix : you do have a point...

but personally i have a few issues with renaming, most importantly being the total unnecessary waste of money on it.
Esp with this thing tho, is renaming an area after someone who caused much pain and suffering to residents of the area.

The only [ex-] terrorist I have any respect for at all is Nelson Mandela. The others, yeah well some [actually most] of them stay terrorists in my mind.
I got lost once in Jozie because some numnut had renamed the streets to something I couldn't pronounce, spell or even manage to write down in the 12 character line in my notebook. This is not being racial or anything, but come on....

Nice reading comprehension champ. I would like to see absolutely NO political names for places or institutions. Not ANC or NP or old government or new government. I NEVER said that I agree with the ANC. If you actually read my post you will see that clearly. I only want fairness (and not knee-jerk racism). If you complain about Zondo, you have to complain about Verwoerd as well. I complain about both. Not just the black one.

Hey man,

I mean no disrespect and I understand your statement as a feeling of frustration, but seriously, WHO is going to disband that big-a$$ circus? The ANC themselves? Like they did the Scorpions?

Seriously, as a South African you currently have two options:

1. Choose to look the other way and simply ignore all the serious bullsh1t going on here and continue living in your little cocoon.
2. Try and get the hell out of the country for good.

No matter what you or I or anybody says, and no matter HOW outraged we are, things are NOT going to change. The damn a$$-clowns in charge of this godforsaken place will do all they can ON PURPOSE to pi$$ off everybody in this country who doesn't agree with them. The will ALWAYS keep on reminding everybody about the injustices of the past and how they suffered, and how they deserve this and deserve that, and how they demand this and demand that. This WILL NOT CHANGE for 10 years, 50 years... hell, even a hundred years from now. These clowns might only realise that they perhaps, maybe just ever so slightly, approached the situation incorrectly when the day comes that this country burns.

No matter how positive you are, or peppy, or chirpy, or bubbly (choose your own little "fun" word here): fact is, SA is a circus ruled by clowns, and Bozo is always AWOL busy entertaining... erm... "mediating", at some other circus.

This was not directed at you. Just wanted to say that no amount of outrage will help, because the clowns are basically deaf by choice.

There is a third option. Vote for someone else in the next year and make sure everyone you know does the same (the number of voters in SA elections have steadily declined). The ANC will probably win but if we all vote for opposition parties then the ANC will not be able to do whatever they please. Both the DA and IFP have really tried to oppose the recent stupidity of the ANC in trying to rename every bench and street pole in Durban after someone who has nothing to do with the street/school/whatever let alone the city. To be honest I'm quite impressed with how the IFP has responded to this issue (and others recently), both the IFP and DA have presented perfectly logical arguments for halting the renaming process but the ANC in eThekwini are drunk with power (probably drunk period).
Seriously, through our action or inaction we've given the ANC too much power (in fact no party should wield as much power as they do right now). It is a democracy after all. And opposition parties can be quite effective, I'm quite impressed by the manner in which Helen Zille united all the opposition parties in Cape Town against the ANC and the ID (who are really just another way of spelling 'ANC'.) It's only hopeless if you give up.

Then I completely agree with you. Fighting racism with racism is still racist.

I agree and a good point, but throughout the country the ANC has been changing names and they've been doing it with proper consultation and the names that have changed have been changed to largely honorable people we can all agree have contributed to a better country. In eThekwini the ANC have gone mad with renaming and have ignored all opposition and claimed everyone else is against is just stupid for opposing the renaming (it's really only a problem in Durban).
