Hey ppl
I officially ordered me adsl from telscum this afternoon. I am going to do a self-install and will see how long this all takes. The guy I dealt with was ok, he had a decent idea of what was potting,but had no idea of the new regs thou when I asked for an under 30 day install, suppose that was to be expected.
I can’t wait to join the whole online community of SA on adsl, and so I will update when I know anything new. I will go see the guy agian in a week and then pester them for results.

It will be interesting to see how long it will take.

I say, 21 days. Why did I say that? Simply because I applied for ADSL on my new premises and thats what they told me but, I been calling them on a regular basis (3 times a day) made lots of enemies but got good contacts in the process. Soooooooooooo, call, call and call it may work

My dsl installation (self install) took 13 days. Anyone any quicker.

P.S. I phoned them 6 times every day. I suspect they got a little irritated with me.

Telkom told me yesterday it will take 11 days will follow up again and hopefully it will be less than 11 days

Yip. Thanks to GangStarr I now know that they have to add ports to my exchange. This should be done by month end (Yeah Right!!!!), then they have 7 days to plug in the line (double yeah right!!!!).

My installation took 5 days But when my In-laws applied it took 3 days

I nearly fell over!!

I guess my biggest problem is that they have to put more ports in. I live in a townhouse complex and have seen a telkom box up against one of the walls so i dont know if that one has to be upgraded or if its further away.

I have seen many telkom vans in the area, on some days i drive past at least 5 doing something. Looks like they are laying cable.

Shot guys. Ja as I said I will give till next week then rash them until I get what I want.
Our area ia also quite busy so I doubt a 3-4 day wait. But the guy I delt with kinda hinted at helping me out and getting this sorted. Thou he could do this 10 times, a day so will see what ahppens.

Update

Ok, so a woman phoned my house on friday and spoke to my old lady, said that the application had been processed and eveything would all be complete in the next 7/8 days. I was quite surprised that THEY phoned us after only applying a few days ago.
Well I can only hope that it actually pans out out this way. Any advice on how to go about making sure that I don't let them get away with anything. I want adsl by next week. I am getting a netgear 834g in the next couple of days so if they can come with the connection I am sorted.

I allso applied for Diginet and they can't help with the either.

Dudes you have my sympathies.
Things could still go decidedly south for me still. I walked into the telkom shop today. was told runaround stories. all i heard was blah blah blah eish. Ill go back when the white guy i spoke to first is there.

...A friend of mine is going for like 3 months now.....Best of all is, he HAS a telphone line and just need the ppl at Telkom to throw over a switch....they dont even NEED to install new lines...lol

Update time

Ok. so on monday my phone line started acting up. It had a wierd interferance type of noise in the backround. Figured that something was happening in the direction of adsl install. I phoned them but had no diffinitive answer. So today I phoned and was told i was waiting for for varification. Now the phone had been behaving badly, it doesn't ring when phoned and its all distorted. When i called my mom's cell I got her voice mail and managed to speak to her at the SAME time. I went this afternoon to the telkom office and spoke to the same guy. He said that I was now activated, sorted out the isp and then I had to go to home and then to work (where i am now). I did connected the router and stuff before i went and left my brother to sort it out.
Basically it is not working and the telkom techs tell me differing stories. mainly that the filter is wrong.
I got a netgear 834 g an hooked it up the way the diagram said, flter and all. So i mean wtf.
My concern is the that we ahve an old line, meaing we got the old like 3prong plug things going into an adapter that then comes with rj-11. so i thought that maby the old connectors are stuffing it all up. telkom aren't worried thou.
I will try and sort it when i get home a little later(8pm).

I hope for your sake you're not running of the same exchange as I do, Lynnwood Glen I think (361...348..etc.) Best guestimate they were able to give was Feb 2007. Maybe being on the other side of the highway will bring you more luck Oh yes, applied on the 20th of June, eventually got a date today, 11 weeks later.

Don't use the standard netgear filter, it doesnt work here, you have to get a filter from the devil, um Telkom, and all should be fine(lol, I referred to Telkom and everything being fine in one sentence).
