ask your cellular network why they are so slow.

another reason never to buy a phone on contract
it isn't a contract phone, I bought it in cash from hi-online. Although it is a phone from Vodacom ... Its dual SIM, is not locked and the only thing that identifies its from Vodacom was a wallpaper.

You should buy a Cell C/Telkom prepaid phone. MTN/Vodacom phones will have their firmware installed and you'll be at their mercy.

Got the update on my A73 on Monday, not on contract though, so I don't think the phone is tied to a network.

That's not how it works, it's whatever Sim card is inserted defines what carrier the phone belongs to, if you remove your Sim it will just pick the old carrier until a new one is inserted (and I think there was a time limit, but I think it used to be pretty long, not sure how long anymore, but not enough to just take Sim out for a day or two).

The carrier specific android version can probably override, not sure what the carriers are allowed to change.

I am referring to the carrier specific android version that you can get from carrier supplied phones.
