This is a serious FAIL! for Android. I do appreciate all the complexities with all the OEM's etc but Google MUST get involved more and force OEM's to get better at this. With Apple everybody gets a new version the same day. Why the heck should Android users wait so long? Yes, I know, there are ROM's out there, but it is wrong for the end-user to make a plan where the likes of Samsung plainly fail to deliver. If this is not going to get sorted people will migrate away from Android as they see far better delivery on the other side of the fence.

This comes to mind ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXZZu7UbtqI

Wow, I really thought Motorola & Samsung would be in the A catergory given their involvement with the platform.

I would have thought so too. Samsung's designer claimed the other day that Samsung is not seen as poor when it comes to software any more ... yeah sure ....

I think the way forward is for Google to take Motorola and make sure the updates gets released for their phones ASAP. This will FORCE other vendors to follow suit as not too lose market share.

The market is ripe for a vendor to take clear advantage of this shortcoming, the one who addresses this first will become the strongest phone vendor IMHO.

So it's an article about which manufacturers have updated their bloatware to the latest version of Android and which not, and suddenly it's ZOMG ANDROID IS TEH WORST THING EVAR!! Gotta love sensationalism.

I guess "people will start moving to the other side of the fence" too (whatever that means), since Microsoft hasn't forced my company to upgrade everyone to Windows 8 and Office 2010 yet? I can chuck away my keyboard because it doesn't have the latest firmware? Right...

Over exaggerate much?

Where did any of us say "ZOMG ANDROID IS TEH WORST THING EVAR"? It is quite the opposite actually. I consider it to be the best thing since Linux!

I do not believe that this will cause people to migrate away from Android, and you have completely missed the point of the article.
I personally will NEVER EVER again own a WM phone and I will NEVER EVER get an Apple product.

I love android too, but to say NEVER use WM or IOS (or whatever it becomes) is naive. Its fanboi mentality. Same as people with ATI cards that say they will never use NVIDIA, AMD vs INTEL. Really just use the best, if it happens to be android (which it probably is right now) then use it. But really, to say you will stick to one thing forever is silly, because google may in the future decide not to keep android opensource, then what are you gonna do?

Then I'll go Symbian or something else Open Source, or heaven forbid, BB, but you can take my word to the bank, I will not use a WM or iOS device, ever.
Fanboy, Linux fanboy yes. I have never hidden that fact and it will in most likelihood never change. Android fanboy, no, not by a long shot, but so far it is the most decent alternative to the limited and expensive Linux devices out there. If I could get an OpenMoko, OH BOY! Just hope they upgrade the hardware soon.

Not you. Did you completely gloss over every post between the OP and mine? Why on earth would you think anything I said was directed at you?

Its obvious
There is no policeman to chase this and as such up to the individual players to chose their own timelines. Who can blame them when no terms and conditions are in place to dictate updates.

Iam sure once a device has left the factory, the players are happy, not to have anything to do with it except collect revenue

Hahahahahaha, BB, but I totally agree, they need someone to drive the competition forward, otherwise we will just have to keep on relying on hackers from places like XDA. :/
