Android Auto (Google Assistant) vs Apple Carplay (Siri)

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but it seems like it. Also, I'm not technically savvy when it comes to these kinds of things with cars. Anyway, some input would me appreciated.

I have a 2019 Audi A4 (B9). And I saw the unit below, and was wondering if this a recommended or worthwhile upgrade - or even possible? The current fitted info screen is as basic as it gets, so if the below does what it says it does, then it might be worthwhile?

Some upgrade thingy

Replacing screens in cars with more intelligent aftermarket units is very common. Before buying one, I’d recommend rather going through an aftermarket fitment professional who will guarantee the unit’s compatibility for your car and handle the fitment for you. Just bear in mind this probably won’t do any favours to your car’s value, at least when selling through a dealer anyway.

Thanks for the feedback. That's good advice. I'm keeping this car, so no intent of ever selling it or trading it in. Any idea of reliable fitment places in the Upper Highway area in KZN? Maybe someone that somebody's used before?

Sorry not familiar with that area. I just do a Google search saying “Car Audio near me” and see which suppliers come up and what their ratings are. That will tell the professionals from the startups.

Have you tried upgrading the OEM radio software to include Android Auto?

Thank you, I will do that.

A little bit, but Audi isn't very helpful. They are pretty much clueless when it comes to this, and from what I heard, they will charge an arm and a leg because they have to "special order the unit" from some other part of the planet and will cost me about R25.

Audi told me my MMI was unable to run Android Auto, a bit of searching on YouTube and I am running the latest maps and Android Auto now. You can get the MMI software from other sources and install it

Have a look at this guy for the B9 upgrade.

CarPlay 2.0 will support widgets

Apple is ready to upgrade our driving experience with the highly anticipated CarPlay 2.0. While the tech giant missed its initial launch target, the latest leaks suggest a significant upgrade is on the horizon. CarPlay 2.0 appears ready to transform vehicle dashboards into an immersive extension of the iPhone, complete with customizable widgets.

Leaked images of the CarPlay 2.0 interface reveal a striking resemblance to the familiar iOS and iPadOS widget system. Drivers will likely have the ability to personalize their dashboard with essential information and frequently used apps. You'll finally be able to glance at your car's screen and see real-time weather updates, calendar events, or even the latest news headlines.

The leaked images show different widget styles, with square and rectangular options. A large widget split between a navigation map and a music playback suggests the possibility of dynamic and informative displays. It seems Apple is about to deliver a truly personalized in-car experience.

The leaked screenshots depict a traditional rectangular screen, but the implications for CarPlay 2.0 extend far beyond. Apple envisions CarPlay taking over the entire dashboard, with infotainment and core vehicle functions like the speedometer and climate control.
