Angola's former president Jose Eduardo dos Santos, who ruled Africa's second biggest oil producer for nearly four decades, has died aged 79, the Angolan presidency said on Facebook on Friday.

The former president died at 11:10 am Spanish time at the Barcelona Teknon clinic following a prolonged illness, the presidency said.

And like the erstwhile despots of so many african countries his legacy and brilliance can be measured by the fact that he died while getting medical attention abroad since in 40 years he was unable (read unwilling and uninterested) to provide Angola with an even third class medical industry. This will NEVER change until politicians are OBLIGED to make use of public facilities, health education etc.
