A metro police officer sustained injuries to her face and body after an angry crowd of people attacked her outside a mall in Johannesburg on Sunday.
A video of the incident, which has been going viral on social media, showed the crowd of people shouting at the officers on duty.
A scuffle later ensued.
In the video, a man could be seen trying to punch an officer in the face. Shortly after, another man slapped a different officer as she tried to break up the scuffle.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said the incident occurred at the Pan Africa shopping centre in Alexandra, while officers were enforcing City by-laws for illegal street trading.

"JMPD officers then regrouped and returned to Pan Africa mall where they arrested two male suspects," Minnaar said in a statement.
A case of assault and interfering with an officer in the execution of duty was later opened at the Alexandra police station.
Minnaar said a bigger follow-up raid would be carried out in the same area to enforce City by-laws on Tuesday.

Shoot them. Simple. It's legal private defense.

Oh wait, then the cops will be in trouble again, like at Marikana. I forgot a criminal bunch of murderers can attack cops with weapons including guns, and they're not allowed to defend themselves.

Unfortunately Marikana has set a precedent for if you lawfully shoot protesters as a Police officer, you will still be trialed by public and found guilty.

Correct. Marikana was a turning point for the entire police force in South Africa. That one reaction and response from government about that single shooting disarmed the entire police force, resulting in no more fear for our cops. If they want to catch you, you just fight back, violently, and they can't do anything about it.

Personally I believe that cop deserved the clap she got. If you don't act with dignity don't expect others to do so to you.

Look, I believe that we all have the right to defend ourselves, but shooting someone in the back is a major issue. I don't think Marikana is a fair comparison.

How is it not a fair comparison? The police where being attacked and they defended themselves... The attackers were even armed. Did unarmed people get shot? Sure, but why did they attack the police also in that mob?

Shooting people in the back is not justifiable under any circumstances, and they should have been held to account for that.

Wait, so if a Mob rushes you, and you are defending yourself you are suppose to not stun their advance? Obviously when the bullets start flying some will turn and run. Do you now stop shooting as those advancing will now no longer attack you?
