Wait, so if a Mob rushes you, and you are defending yourself you are suppose to not stun their advance? Obviously when the bullets start flying some will turn and run. Do you now stop shooting as those advancing will now no longer attack you?

Just stop. The whole situation was a mess. BOTH sides were wrong. But I blame the SAPS the most, because they were (and probably still are) ill equipped to handle such situations. Stop justifying shooting people in the back.

You know what I cannot live with? A police force that is emboldened to take a life without any accountability.

Shooting people in the back is not justifiable under any circumstances, and they should have been held to account for that.

If you're part of an attacking mob, even shooting at the cops, after murdering several people, illegally in possession of weapons stolen from those people, then yes, you deserve to be shot. Cops can't single out people coming and going. It's called "collateral damage", and it happens. If you don't want to be a part of it, you're not supposed to be there. Hell, these people went through rituals to make themselves "bulletproof" before this. They KNEW they were going to be shot at. Yes, the cops aren't trained to handle a mass of attacking people. Doesn't change the fact that every one of those people deserved to be shot. Period.

For sure. You know what would be even better? Crowds who don't riot for every single damn excuse. Crowds who don't murder people and take their weapons and then attack police officers with it. Also, crowds who don't play the damn victim after then being shot at. Your defense of what the crowd did is appalling, and part of the problem we have with a complete disregard of law enforcement in South Africa at present.

Yes, shooting into a crowd isn't smart. However, if that crowd attacks me, I'll also shoot into it, no questions asked.

EDIT: And if this happened at a mall with mostly innocent people, sure, I would 100% agree with you. However, this wasn't innocent people. Each and every one of them is complicit in a serious crime (multiple murders), and several others that never even gets mentioned (like illegal striking, violence, vandalism, illegal possession of weapons, etc.). They damn well got what they deserved.
