Wow. We knew he was in the area, but that's almost too close for comfort...

C-Max escapee caught and shot
December 04, 2006, 10:15

Annanias Mathe, one of South Africa's most wanted criminals, has been shot near a squatter camp in Tembisa on the East Rand. It is understood he was picked up by a Netstar helicopter before abandoning the stolen car he was driving.

Mathe reportedly ran into one of the houses in Tembisa where he was caught. He then stabbed one of the Netstar personnel with a screw driver in the eye in a bid to flee.

Netstar officials then opened fire and shot him three times in the leg.

Mathe may be part of a large criminal syndicate
Police sources say Mathe is believed to be part of a large criminal syndicate operating between South Africa and Mozambique.

Correctional services are investigating the possibility that Mathe's escape from C-Max last month was an inside job.

Looks like he's dead, but there will always be the next one.

Arrested by car trackers - not the police.

Shame on them...

Hope the wounded security guard gets the best treatment possible.

I guess he has his lucky stars to thank that the SAPS did not find him. I would think that they would like to put him in a place where there would be no escaping
