Seeing as we can't solve the problems in Zim, and that the Zims seemingly have free access to SA...

if we were to annex Zimbabwe would it be beneficial for SA and the Zim populace ?

We would no longer have the refugee problem, we could turn the land back into the breadbasket it was, we could offer better health, improve the financial fiasco etc etc

I know Bob won't give it to us but just thinking hypothetically.

Why not? All the Zimbabweans are here already, at least we'll have somewhere to send them when we're done.

I'd rather annex the whole of Africa to be honest.

I read a book many decades ago.

the key point for me was the astronaut who was from the USSA. (United States of Southern Africa)

Yes I can dream.

Can you imagine, the educated workforce from Zim, the governance from Bots, the oil from Angola, the economy of SA, the dunes & farms from Nam, the beaches & farming from Moz...

That would be great, pity about megalomaniacs

Thus far something like 2k people of Zim has died of cholera since outbreak.

I don't think it would work because often when things like this happens the original citizens of the dissolved country seem like they get 2nd class citizen status.

2ndly it can only happen if the people in zim vote for it, else you will have a revolt and 'terrorism'/freedom fighters opposing due to above reason and lack of choice offered to them. Even if a majority want it there is bound to be some revolt still altho a minority.

Hrm.. wasn't zim + namibia + mozambique asked if they want to join in 94? -curious-

Edit.. 2,106 people killed in Zim by cholera acc. to UN

China should just buy Zimbabwe. They don't care about human rights and they'll have the timber, iron and tobacco out of there in no time... Then we can buy those same products back from China at increased costs.

Even though that doesn't sound like it makes sense... it's already probably happening.

Whats to stop a newer mugabe 2.0 from the same party who is younger and likely to rule for another 20-50 yrs?

Zimbabweans are better educated and would work hard because they have nothing left. They would not expect hand outs from the government. I think..

Fear of someone sending a sniper for him?

Usually they just up their security.. Saddam Hussein springs to mind and how he pretty much learned(from the US) how to prevent assassinations.

We will land up with Zim governance, SA oil, Mozambiques economy, Angola's farms and Botswana's beaches...

I think post colonial era, the people of Africa prefer their independence.. I doubt even a EU type scenario would happen even tho the AU does exist.
