New data shows that home renovations in South Africa are on the decline as people save their pennies to ride out the flat economy.

They may want to have a conversation with the building contractors in Durban... They're all too busy with work to actually even come and quote on new work.

I find that hard to believe.

I just embarked on some renovations myself and asked the contractor, "are you guys busy?" They said, "You have no idea"

He said that he believes that people opt for renovations as its the cheaper option, as opposed to buying a new place together with all the transfer fees.

I had to go to 5 different contractors before I got a opening in one of their diaries.

TBH, as unskilled as I am, I do as much of it myself if possible or luckily use a skilled labourer who we've known for a while and trained.
