What do you pay your domestic worker?

My domestic worker keeps running out of money, and promises time and time again it won't happen.

I recently increased her salary to R3300.00 a month. I want to know if I'm being a stingy miser or if I am on par with the rest of Johannesburg?

(Live out, monday to friday, all the food she wants at work).

Size of home and hours she/he works?

3 Bedroom house.

I'm a bachelor. She also looks after the cottage (where I rent to a couple).

Normally gets to work at around 9 and leaves around 3:30 to 4:00 PM

You might need to delve a bit into her situation. Single breadwinner? Where does she stay? (how many taxis is she catching?) How many kids and how old are they? etc. etc. could be she really is coming short, maybe she's got debt problems, maybe she is supporting her own or family member habits...

This sounds heartless but it is not the employers problem.

I would however agree that finding out if she/he has problems like bad debt etc etc and then advising her/him on how to get it sorted if it is that. If she/he has 18.3 children and she/he is taking care of her/his grand parents and own parents there is not a lot you can do.

I pay mine R3400 for same times. It`s fair imho, but taxi monies are killing them. Mine spents around 30%+ on her transport. Since your a bachelor and there`s 3 bedrooms give her the other 2 for her and her family. That should save around R1000 on transport en R800 on her house.

We pay our domestic R3300 and she is live in Monday to Friday. She also gets monthly rations which covers most of her food and she just has to buy day to day items like bread and milk.

You are probably not factoring in leave pay & Christmas bonus. I find that those items add about 20% to the actual wage paid.

R3500 I think.

5 days a week 9 to 3. 350m2 house, three dogs, two people.

Unfortunately, if its not enough, she'll have to find work elsewhere, we only need someone 2-3 times a week, and only offered her a full week so she has more money.

And that's the reality. I think a lot of people hire full time when they don't necessarily need as a couple of days a week is no use to the domestic and they'd just lose her to a different job.

And it's not going to get any better - I get a decent salary, but it certainly isn't keeping up with expenses - increases are based on inflation, which is BS.

And I have no idea what part of that quote you're commenting on...or whether you approve or disapprove "Jirre Boet, i have no words..." is about as useless as it gets comment-wise.

It's pretty clear to me. He is not fond of the idea of sharing his home with the family of his domestic, and doesn't think it's a good idea for other people.
