A fleet of brand new BMWs were officially handed over by President Cyril Ramaphosa to the Western Cape’s new Anti-Gang Unit during a launch in Hanover Park, Cape Town, on Friday.

SAPS paraded 50 unmarked BMWs, to be used specifically by detectives, in front of thousands of screaming Hanover Park residents at the Downsberg Sports Field.

"Today [Friday] we are launching a national anti-gang strategy," Ramaphosa said during his keynote address.

"This strategy that has been given to me by the minister, crafted by the commissioner of police and his top police management, is a strategy that we are going to unfold.

50 BMWs ? And they came from where ?

Unmarked - I can't imagine brand new BMWs with sunroofs are a common site on the Flats !

Have the ANC now given up on letting gangs reign as part of their grand plan to make the WC ungovernable?

They may be taking advantage of the current divisions within the DA. If this project delivers tangible results, it will be touted in rallies across the countries as victory by the ANC (the thin line conveniently blurred).

But what if it's a tender? We all wanted a dedicated gang fighting team and this is it
The point being that it was stupid to give them 50 BMW and equally stupid to make a press statement regarding it. It is supposed to be low key but now the whole world knows what they drive.

If you have ever been on the flats you would know why this was a mistake. Should have given them Nissan Sentra's and Honda Civic's etc...

It's obvious these are going to be nothing more than patrol and pursuit cars. What they use for undercover operations is probably classified.

Which is ill since the DA and communities in the Western Cape has demanded this crime unit's reinstatement for yonks now.

Couple years and they'll be down to a third of them ....... sad reading when you look into these things over the long term because government can't be arsed funding the police regularly and properly

They are probably thinking their chances of winning it back are good, they don't want to win back an ungovernable province.

Lol the ANC are claiming credit for this yet the DA - and especially Zille - have been calling for this for years.

Must be an election around the corner...

Oh.
