SAPS don't pay market price for their vehicles, and no doubt there BMW footed a lot of the bill.
Even if they got them for free, they are not the most economical to maintain. The fuel bill alone for these cars will be insane. I suspect tires, brakes etc will also come in at a pretty penny.

Tires and fuel. Rest is Motorplan. Yet, I KNOW these cars are heavily abused. Surely then, most motorplan claims will be rejected due to driver abuse as it is done with the general public.

What sort of abuse ate we talking about here?
Extended spiritied driving (these muppets will add to that by not bothering to wait for operating temps). You would think that the way most BMW M cars are advertised this would be OK. It is not. And BMW will point you to the sentence in the motorplan contract that states this.

KFC oily fingers on the steering and gearshift is another.

I know stealerships are slimey @$# but unless there's visible mechanical damage resulting from abuse, they normally honour their side of the deal.

mechanical failure should be covered. but not if you go off road with a M145i or fly through the air ramping.

And those arrests were ALL high speed chases where ONLY those BMWs could have caught the perps. Yeah. Your ANC membership cars is waiting.
Are you that obtuse?

A specialised unit with specialised training making 60 arrests in a few days... You think that they'll go smash up 50 BMW's?

Do the Hawks or STF go smash up their high-speed vehicles?

In some of those areas you could arrest almost everyone you see and not get sued for wrongful arrest.

It's not that I don't support the effort being made, but the underlying problem being unemployment ( and unemployability ), there are another 60 gangstas lining up to take their place.

But that's not what the unit is for. They did what they were employed to do.

So essentially just keep doing what they've been doing for decades, the circle goes on and on ?

I don't get the point, arrest all the gangsters, just makes room for the next generation.
You do get the point, stop trying so hard to confuse yourself, Yes do what they have been doing for decades, it is their job, leave the gangsters to roam the streets so that there is no room for the next generation of gangsters? Does not make sense at all. The issues of unemployment is not for the police to worry about.

May as well build sandcastles on the shore when the tide is coming in.

In the 60 years I've lived here not much if anything has changed re the gangs on the Flats.

Throw money at it, throw more police at it, people just continue to die.

I'm willing to bet in a years time, in 5 years time we will be having the same conversation.

Asks me if I am obtuse, yet demonstrates it perfectly in the following sentences. Well done.

Western Cape traffic officials are shocked at a video that appears to show traffic officers closing the N2 highway to allow drivers to "spin" their cars.

A video published by Netwerk24 showed reckless driving on the N2 near Grabouw, where several traffic vehicles can be seen in attendance.

The video depicts drivers "spinning" in a circle on the closed road, while spectators look on and cheer.
