AVG - best bet. as for AVAST... works well, but slows down pc's, and as much as avast catches bugs slipping thru that AVG didnt, AVG just seems to nail more than AVAST. Doesnt matter what you use, something will always slip thru, and be found later after an update or ten - so no difference to me!

My vote goes to AVG free.

well - i don't think its ment to be - like avast they state clearly that it gives you the software free for home use only, not for business use, and that you would have to pay for it otherwise.

Its quite bad how many companies are using AVG Free edition...

Funny thing is that they "advertise" it every time the send an e-mail, as text is added: "This e-mail was scanned using AVG Free edition" ! Doh!

So can AVG free be used in a business ..?
As much as I'm a fan of the free AVG and use it nearly everywhere I can, in offices I switch to ClamAV which is GPL, and thus legally clear to use anywhere at all. While it's a competent AV, it doesn't do live scanning like the others do, something that can (apparently, I've still to personally test it) by using Winpooch, about which:
About Winpooch
Winpooch is a Windows watchdog, free and open source. Anti spyware and anti trojan, it gives a full protection against local or external attacks by scanning the activity of programs in real time. Associated with ClamWin antivirus, Winpooch keeps safe your computer against virus.

API Hooking
Winpooch uses the API Hooking method. It spies programs when they are running and gives to the user a powerful control of their activity. For example, you can forbide a program to write in a system directory or in the registry, or else to connect to internet. That makes the difference between others anti spywares using a database of known signatures.

Antivirus
ClamWin is an open source antivirus for Windows that can not scan files in real time, unfortunately. With Winpooch, just associate ClamWin and it will be possible to detect virus in a program before it runs.
