"Recently the US Supreme Court ruled that internet file-sharing services can be held legally responsible if they distribute products that permit illegal downloading. So-called peer-to-peer (p2p) networks that let people share the files on their home computers are in trouble, in short. But it seems South Africa was ahead of the curve on this one. Local wireless broadband supplier iBurst doesn’t allow users to access p2p networks at all. Very South African – go for the heavy-handed approach whenever possible. And never mind that p2p networks are likely to be important in the future in ways we cannot predict. Like the World Wide Web when it was invented by nuclear scientists at CERN."
