I cannot connect to the internet via Cell C on my Samsung GS2.

I've given up on Cell C's technical department so as a last resort I'm hoping someone on MyBB will have the same set up and help identify where I'm going wrong.

[OPTIONAL INFO / RANT BEGINS] I tried phoning Cell C's technical help desk about 10 to 15 times and each time the agent talked me through the settings, including telling me how the ones I had (which I'd been given by the same technical department 20 minutes previously) were wrong. After getting sick of endlessly entering different settings I logged a call with their technical department a week ago (twice because the first one got lost in the system). I'm still waiting for something to happen. Cell C can't / won't help. [RANT ENDS]

CURRENT PHONE INFO

The phone is running Android 4.0.3 (Ice cream Sandwich)

I've used the phone on other networks (MTN) without a problem. I've used the Cell C sim in other phones without a problem. The sim works for calls.

So, if you have the same set up as me: Cell C sim, Samsung GS2, Android ICS 4.0.3, and it works for data, please share your exact settings. In theory they should work on my phone.

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thank in advance.

Here are the current data settings on my phone:

Try adding a new APN. Name it something random like TestCellC. Then enter "internet" under APN. Don't enter or alter anything else. Save and select TestCellC as your APN. Try to connect

1. Are you sure you have Cell C data coverage where you are? Perhaps the settings are correct, but it is not connecting, because you only have 2g/GSM connection. Check coverage here: http://www.cellc.co.za/network-coverage-map

2. Your settings could be right, but your phone's network might be set to "Automatic" instead of "Cell C". This will cause your phone to try to connect on both Cell C and Vodacom, depending on the coverage provided by each network. From personal experience, I don't think the SGS2 is the best phone for handling this automatic roaming. So try to set your network to either "Cell C" or "Vodacom", and then try again.

3. Nashua Mobile and FNB also sell 3G services, where you are required to enter APN settings provided by them. You could try these. FNB offer it for free, to certain clients. See here: http://www.cellc.co.za/network-coverage-map

4. Sometimes you might need to reboot your phone, if it is misbehaving. Change the settings, then reboot, then test.

5. Are you sure that your data connection is enabled?

@Saajid has some good ideas that should help.

I use CellC with an ics mod on a Motorola Defy. I also suspect it could just be a CellC 3g coverage prob. Do you get the "H" on your network indicator at all?
If all else fails, try doing a hard factory reset - which should set the phone back to factory defaults. With the network auto detect apn settings it should connect as well.

It is difficult to say, as you seem to mix internet settings with WAP/MMS thingy. Just take note that unless you know what you are doing, you shouldn't have enabled proxy for Internet connection. Secondly, Bearer service - investigate options available.

OK, I see how it looks on Galaxy. Sorry for my comment, it is Galaxy confusing us. :-(
My comment regarding proxy is valid.

This worked! Thank you.

As happy as it makes me to be able to connect, it's frustrating that Cell C couldn't offer such a simple and effective solution.

Cell C need to update their technical department's suggestions script.

Thanks again for replying and especially OGK.

Same settings as mine. But i can connect to the internet. I only connect if i roam on vodacom network and its fast.
Go to Mobile networks > make sure u check "use packet data" and "data roaming". Go to "network operators" and select Vodacom.
