I'd like some advice please.

I want to get back into golf but the membership fees are a bit ridiculous at most clubs, R12 000 p/a seems to be the norm for most decent Jhb clubs. Then still R200 green fees if you are a member for each round

Is playmoregolf a good option, or do you still pay through your neck for green fees on the day? I see memberships to playmoregolf is something like R3000 to R5000 p/a

What would you guys suggest for a person who wants to play every second weekend or so?

Thx

Every weekend or so???
Join an existing rural club to obtain a handicap card. You will have a official handicap.
Bronkhorstspruit charges R1375.00 p/a. Green fees from R140.00 to R250.00.

You can play at any club of your choice as long as you are prepared to pay their green fees.

Things has changed dramatically. Most clubs have great specials during the week and Sunday afternoons. Even at R300.00 a game at some of the best courses in the country you can fit in a lot of games for R10,000.00 every second weekend or so.

Stay away from Play More Golf. It is a ripoff.

Happy golfing.

Why do you say playmoregolf is a rip off?

I won't necessarily say it is a rip-off, but it depends on how often you play.

Have you looked at sites like lastminutegolf? Couple of weeks ago you could have played Royal Jhb West course for R265. When I want to play, I normally troll there site to see what is available. The prices is normally better than affiliated green fees.

If you want a handicap, then look for a cheap course to join. Just make sure that the course is recognized by other groups/institutions as an affiliated course. Some courses become very sticky about this.

Places like Cathedral Peak Golf Club is about R940 per annum.

As mentioned, I normally troll lastminutegolf. I don't have a handicap as I don't play 18 holes that often. Normally I play a mashie-course with my 6 year old. I also do not play tournaments, so no need for a handicap. But as my son gets older, I will look into memberships again......

If you're a casual golfer like me (play 4-5 times a year), lastminutegolf and golfteetimes are your best bet. You pay affiliate rates without needing a membership anywhere.
