Any ideas where to look for my electricity meter?

So we've bought a new house that is on post-paid electricity. I've found the water meter outside the front gate but am wondering where the electricity meters are usually located? Doesn't seem to be near the water meter.

May seem like a silly question to ask people on the internet I know, just wondering what they look like? Similar to the water meter I guess? Anyone else know where theirs is, outside on the ground under a cover or what?

Normally a grey box, do you live in a complex?

Some areas have locked street cabinets with multiple meters for the adjacent houses, only the meter reader can access them.

If it is on your property, it will be built into a outside wall, into a plastic box with a removable (slide) cover. Chances are, as others have mentioned, your meter is more than likely locked outside in a street cabinet, only accessible by Eskom / Council.

It's a free standing house and the only "wall" is a metal fence. I've noticed a grey box on the corner near by, will take a look if it says something eskom related on it. Would've liked to check up on how many units I'm using (I am used to pre-paid :)) but I guess that's probably not an option.

there is normally a little flap you can move to the side to watch the meter turn if you are that way inclined.

Understandable these days, my postpaid meter is embedded in the outside kitchen wall and easy to read. Maybe pre-paid is an option check with the municipality.

You can install a KWH meter in your DB inside your home - nothing stops you from doing so :)
