What's the deal with the magic mouse? Does Steve not like to get finger prints on his shiny new 27" iMac?
Why not offer a touchscreen version? Is it because the iMac would have to lie down instead of stand up?

The 27" one has some impressive specs. $1999 is not a bad price for it.
CORE will probably want around R35000 for it.

27 inches is boring, I've been using 30 inches at 2560 by 1600 for almost 2 years :)

Plus VAT + import duties + "mystery core costs". I'm predicting R28k.

Been there so many times! Its the price you pay with a moving target like technology. Best thing to do is buy the best you can afford at the time and then forget out it for a few years!

Of course with Apple it doesnt hurt to check out http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/ which gives some indications of when a good time to buy is.

Yup, it's always a bad time to buy, but in this case it's a pretty huge upgrade for the iMac compared to the last one.

The prices of Apple products here are just insane though.. I am having to finance a iMac through the Apple Store on a Vodacom contract just to afford one (I am but a lowly graphic designer). This means I am paying almost double the original price. My sister in Oz told me how much they cost there and it's about a third cheaper! Come on people. I was told that the reason why it's so expensive is because the good ol' government is taxing the bejeezuz out of it because it's a luxury item.

Do you think this will bring down the price of the iMac that is currently in stores?

No....

They will not discount their current stock, they'll just not tell the customer they have new stock at the same price.
