Just look at all the other ISP thread. octotel users all over. If someone complains about slow international and packetloss they seem to always be on Octotel but hey mybb writes articles about "Behind Octotels impressive network...." Meh

Not sure if anyone else was down last night. International was dead for me. Have not bothered to check today.

There was a Fibreco NLD outage last night, which Seacom now owns so could be related.

1. macrolan (used them last month - flawless), seacom
2. afrihost (currently with them - luckypacket), liquid telecom
vumatel trenched.

@wingnut771 The only things that turn me off from macrolan is their archaic sign up process and no presence on mybb, whereas afrihost have a nice gui for their client zone and they have mybb reps. On the other hand, afrihost has those k*k routes outside of london with no ETA whether liquid will fix them and you get locked in for 6 months.

Ideally i would go with websquad but they don't offer more than 40mb on openserve and if they did it would be a bit too expensive anyway.

Edit:

I was checking out seacom's routing from cape town and its also not optimal to some places in eu tbh. Compared to cisp (my current isp) its between 10-30ms higher in some instances e.g.

Code:
CISP
Pinging 52.95.154.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 52.95.154.1: bytes=32 time=148ms TTL=45
Reply from 52.95.154.1: bytes=32 time=148ms TTL=45
Reply from 52.95.154.1: bytes=32 time=148ms TTL=45
Reply from 52.95.154.1: bytes=32 time=148ms TTL=45
Reply from 52.95.154.1: bytes=32 time=147ms TTL=45

Seacom
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 52.95.154.1, round-trip min/avg/max = 164/164/168 ms

signup was a bit convoluted with macrolan and no clientzone but i would choose smooth internet over shiney internet, all i care about is if my real debrid works, currently it's a pain, was with websquad before macrolan, also flawless, except asia route which is sorted now, i would go back to websquad due to mybb presence (and i see they no longer charging activation fee, not the case when i joined in feb), busy saving up for cancellation fee during free promotion.
what's wrong with CI?

You don't get locked in man... you only pay 999 back if you leave within 6 months. That's nothing if you think you get a free router worth 999 and two months of free subscription and 3 if you migrate to them.. so as a customer you are still better off even if you decide to leave immediately after your free months.. So what you are saying is false.

Fair enough, i didn't consider that. I was purely looking at it from the point of not being able to cancel without paying the 999 fee within 6 months.

I'm on the gigabit package for 1.5k through vumatel, but im moving to a new place that has openserve. I still want the fast speed, so im looking for the cheapest 200mb packages on openserve. 200/100 on cisp is R2409 which is nuts, so id have to go with 100/50 for 1.5k if i want to say with them. Other than that, i don't really have issues with cisp.

Thought I would share as there is not much activity on this thread.

Been with them for 1 month after 4 months of trying to troubleshoot an intermittent routing issue on VOX.
Experience has been very good thus far, had no issues, no downtime and am getting very consistent performance.

500/500, Froogfoot, Cape Town.

General usage:
712425

Speed Test history: - Contending with downloads :D
712551

hmmm, shot for the heads up, well then, that settles it, websquad it is, was a toss up between those 2, as I'm still getting drops on hop 3, maybe changing isp's will get me off that switch, just waiting for promo to end while putting cancellation money aside.
What did Afrihost say about the poor performance out of Durban on Vumatel?
