Any suggestions for a GWM Hover alternative?

Andy, as a school teacher who is possibly closer to children than you appear to be from your elevated position on the Hover bandwagon, I can assure you that it doesn't matter what school we are talking about...there is no way your average teenager wishes to be seen in an uncool car, and the Hover is seriously uncool.

Any 4 x 4 is seriously uncool to a teenager, perhaps you should ask your class?

You are joking...right?

I am SURROUNDED by 4x4's as I go to school in the morning. Best not to make an issue about this, as you are showing your ignorance more and more with every post.

As Andy mentioned - go to the website(s) where real offroaders discuss GWMs good and bad points rather than assuming you know anything.

Secondly; the only reason you won't do that is because you KNOW you will be proven wrong but again you won't admit it. Simple. :D

Am I talking to Andy or shearder...not too sure at the moment.

I see Andy has his own GWM fanboi site here :http://www.my-scenic-motorbike-rides.com/great-wall-cars-your-hover-review.html

One final question. Why is this discussion going on on this inferior website, when you could be basking in glory on the 4x4 forum GWM section? It will do wonders for your testosterone output.

Fazda unfortunately I give up on you, where I live in the first world of Cape Town a cool car is something that doesn't destroy the environment. With most teenagers here green is very cool and any 4x4 is way uncool, just ask my neighbour's kid who begged his dad to sell the Hummer because of the criticism he got at school.

I unfortunately think you understand very little of kids or vehicles. By the way I don't own a GWM but have driven one for a fairly long period and my main issue is with narrow minded people who can't adapt to change and admit the fact that this is a decent vehicle - at least as good, but probably better, than the Fortuner although costing way less. The fact that I owned a Fortuner and have driven the Hover for a long period makes me a pretty good judge.

You clearly live in an odd part of CPT.... most of my friends with kids in CPT have to deal with EXACTLY the same nonsense i deal with in Durban and my mates in JHB deal with... certain types of cars are cool.. and a GWM def wouldn't be. A Hummer has never been cool, its always been seen as a stupid vehicle... if a kid begged his dad to sell his Disco 3 then maybe I'd think the kid was worried about being "green".

I don't have to think about it... you've clearly shown that you have no idea what kids think about and think are cool/not cool.

YAY! We finally agree on something!! A Hummer is not a green vehicle!! But Andy, I hate to disappoint
you, but a Hummer is not the only other 4x4 alternative.

As for my knowledge of cars and kids, I have a couple of thousand pupils from the past 30 years who might disagree with you...and I guess the fact that i have owned 70 cars since 1968 also means nothing, nor does the fact that I have been a car fanatic all my life, but that is all to be swept away with your wonderful logic just because I don't like a GWM Hover!

Your little Hover Blog is fascinating. Are GWM paying you for this?

BTW: If anybody wishes to read more of Andy and friends, here's the link http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php?t=53864

I haven't received a penny from GWM or anybody else, I just get irritated by narrow minded people who are never prepared to try anything different.

The Discovery 3 looks like a brick on wheels - seriously horrible - if you call THAT cool then you have problems - the Hummer looks better, or the Scorpio or the SSangyong Kyron:)

I never said its cool.. I said the teenagers think its cool because to them... it is.

And if you think the Hummer or the Scorpio or the Kyron look better... then you need help in the "style" department.

Oh God...now you are declaring yourself publicly insane. ANYONE who finds a Ssang Yong attractive is seriously lost somewhere.

Andy, best you quit this thread before you make an even bigger ass of yourself.

I forgot to add that buying a car for your kid to look cool is pretty dumb, you should know better than that or is it YOUR peer group's pressure that is influencing you all so greatly - perhaps it is time to grow up!!

You've clearly never had kids have you?

Well, not unless you're a drug dealer, pimp or rap artist.

Which, Andy, is the reason why your neighbours kids didn't like the Hummer. They might have thrown in the green factor to add weight to their argument, but it'll be more about the Hummer than the environment.

Well since he's not posting here anymore its clear that he drove it off the showroom floor and it did the predictable thing and caught fire and then killed him in a minor fenderbender.

The Hover is a very good vehicle - don't listen to all the negative comments. I have so taken to mine that I blog about it and you should read some of the comments by other GWM Hover owners to see how happy they are with the vehicle.

I agree, I've had mine for a year and 3 months now and I can honestly say I'm thoroughly impressed. I have the 2009 H3 4x4 model and it has awesome ride quality, and it's not top-heavy like the Kia Sorento and the Fortuner. It may have bad acceleration in low rev's, but makes up for it with good towing ability. I was driving to Secunda from Witbank the other day, and was doing 170km/h without even realising I'd gone past 120km/h.

The doors are well padded, the cabin is almost completely sound proof, and it performs very well off road. The only problem I have is that I haven't found time to go 4x4 trailing.
