Any suggestions on an inexpensive but reliable smart tv?

My knowledge of technology is very poor and I am hoping someone will be able to help me.

I would like to purchase my parents a smart tv from where they could watch Netflix, etc. Something inexpensive but good.
Any suggestions?

Also, would they be able to stream news channels, etc from the tv? If not, could you suggest any alternatives to the streaming of news channels from the internet?

Most smart TV's support Netflix. I'm happy with my Samsung. As for streaming news , guess you can just use the browser or YouTube for free.

What I did is hook up a cheapie laptop with a wireless kb+m to a hisense 49" fhd (on special for 4999). Works for my dad and the tv is top notch.

Thanks for the reply. As I said, I am not very good with technology - what is a kb+m?

If the TV is working then just get a set-top-box, maybe Apple TV box or Xiaomi mi box that's if they will only be using Netflix.

For the news channels R99 package from DStv comes with most of the news channels but not Enca.
