Any way to silence a Eaton PW9130 UPS

So I ended up with an Eaton UPS for no cost (Helping a friend out sometimes has more then its own rewards), its been lying around doing nothing - the batteries seem OK. I tested it to run my TV and media player, and only uses about 6-10 % load so should be good around 2 hours during load shedding.
Only thing is its noisy as hell, both on battery and AC. I get the noise under Battery but not while AC.
Any way to silence it, sounds like the fan and some other hum.

Open it find beeper . Put prestic over it

I don't think the beeper will stop the fan noise. OP we have the same problem with the Mecer inverter, damn noisy. Still looking for a cure.

Another complaint about a Eaton UPS here - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/701872-Noisy-UPS

... maybe these units are noisy and that's why your friend wasn't using it?

We were just cleaning up, place wasn't being used for 2 years or so - previous tenant left a bunch of stuff told landlord he can keep what ever - so i took the UPS. Not much info on these (apart from official stuff) but found a few similar complaints about this series - don't think its meant for home use - more like server rooms.
I opened up the unit - had a thick layer of dust to get through, once i cleaned it- looks like fan has a standard mobo 3 pin connector, maybe i can just cut a whole in the side panel and replace the standard one with a 12cm fan, might bring noise down a bit?. From the looks of it it was last checked in like 2010 so batteries are actually more dead then I initially assumed. 3 9ah batteries connected in series, cant find those cheap - so for the time being will replace with 3 7.2ah. save up a bit and see if it can handle some larger batteries.

So for any one subscribed to this thread
Either the stupidest idea I ever had or sheer genius.
So noise was over 60 dB as I mentioned looked like a standard 3 pin mobo connector, so I bought an el cheapo 120 mm fan. I seriously didn't think this through though, this isn't a PC case so space is limited - I removed the old fan 80 mm - I had to use the connector from the old fan as they slightly different. I mounted the fan on the outside of the case it covers the hole but a part is off the side and above it, but not too sure about efficiency of the cooling due to this (might have to spend a bit on a super quiet 80 mm fan). The fan failure warning comes up (guessing due to speed of 120 mm compared to the 80 mm) but the temp warning hasn't come up. It doesn't switch off on battery so that's a good sign - though I haven't tested it on load as I am waiting to see if it charges the batteries full so I can run a test on those.

And the noise level is down to 30 dB should be quite enough for a bedroom

Software should provide temperature of ups can check that

Ill try but Im Not sure if it will - the Unit has an LCD on it where you can check pretty much everything (thats where i get the fan failure warning)
It has battery status, load % estimated time on Battery ETC. But no Temp gauge. The manual says it will give a warning if temp too high.

There is software on the Eaton website available for download. You can log into a web interface where all the info is displayed.

Yep already downloaded it the day i got the UPS - I played around with it not a very pretty or super user friendly Gui though :( But going to see if i can make head or tails of it
Not sure who stocks them nowadays but the DeepCool range of case fans were virtually silent, used to use them as replacements in Compaq desktops:

Thats the brand i Got :) R31 at Takealot - Used their app so free delvery I felt a little bad buying such a cheap item online think delivery would cost more than that
I was considering using something like that (or building something) With the fan i replaced it with - its super quiet left it to charge the whole night in the bedroom - Think my laptop is louder!
