After reading the above thread I am getting the feeling more and more that we, as South Africans, will not be able to play WoW, unless you know someone in the US or Europe who will pay for you. I see Australia mentioned and the Middle East, but we fall into neither category. I have played UO and DAoC for many years, and was really looking forward to WoW, now it seems that may never happen...

Anyway, anyone have any inside information about this ? Or anyone in the beta want to go plead our case?

I heard this too, i am hoping like DAOC, Horizons ect ect, South Africans will be Defaulted to the USA Servers. No harm i guess in emailing them.

Where is best place to pickup WoW on Release? Or am i stuck on expensive imports?

I hate this! THis is a major problem and what we need is a telecoms player in SA who is willing to spearhead the process of setting up a local server with the support of WOW...

If not, we will have to do it and I promise to look into this issue myself sometime soon. Either we will have to get exceptions made to the rules or we need a server here.

Regards
Antowan

### What we need in South Africa is cheap 24/7, always on Internet for under R300 a month. ###

Will you have 5,000 people that will pay $14 a month to play on a local server? Only having 50 people completely defeats the purpose of a MMORPG. Go play CS instead.

Easy answer. We Won't.

Best we can hope for is that eventaully they allow us to play on Euro servers. Check back again this time next year.

Hey guys relax.
You can play WOW if you have someone in the States, they can pay the subscription for you.
Otherwise, were having our own official release in March or April.
The game will be available in stores in S.A
and we will even have our own free beta testing, on either American or European serves.
It doesn't pay blizzard to set up servers here, cause it costs a few million dollars to set up the servers and the teams to run them.
BLizzard ahs already had bad experience with S.A and online gaming
And S.A is too full of piracy in Blizzards eyes.
If u have ISDN or ADSL u will be able to play with no problems whatsoever!
Even ppl who been using dial up to play from S.A say it runs fine except when theres tons of ppl around.

Hit me back with any questions.

The piracy argument, I think is weak for Blizzard not to get it here. I mean it's MMORPG so if you do pirate it, it won't work not will it be useful - because it's a MMORPG.

Blizzard is a business

Blizzard and another company launched some MMORPG called something about camelot I think, forgive me for not having the facts 100%, they did a massive survey and South Africans all over said they would definitly be playing.
They spent all the money in setting up the servers and something like 18 ppl actually joined.
I know with a game like WOW there is a massive following, but blizzard just doesn't have good experience with us.
They know, and we know that they won't make their money back if they invest in us, they would have to treet us as a charity case.
They won't even launch a South African mirror that connects directly to their servers.
They are a profit seeking organisation, and we do not fit into their circle of profit making countries.

No need to go that far... two very active South African guilds are already up and running, and we all activated our subscriptions from here ;)

I don't want to say nonesense or anything, but there was never an SA Dark Age of Camelot server, and Blizzard have never had a MMORPG before so er I think perhaps you are misinformed.

Anyway there probably will never be an SA server in any of these games because we simply don't need one. Location is just geography. I have been playing these games for years now without problems. There are at least 100 South African's that I know of playing World of Warcraft right now on the US servers. The latency is basically irrelevant at night and weekends.

We don't need local servers, we need affordable broadband.

Speak to Bruce at Numetro, he is one of the guys in charge if bringing WOW into S.A, you can get his number on Blizzards official website under international sales.
He told me about the S.A Dark age of Camelot server, and that the response was terrible.

Im not making this up, maybe ppl werent informed properly.
