As far as I am aware its then treated as a normal smart shopper and you can access your points via that card.just make sure the cashier swipes it or scans ot your smart shopper points if the person you with doesn't have a card.if you just pay with it you'll just benefit from the swiping part at the end of the month.@TymeBank @TymeGuy, I have a question and this would most probably affect a good percentage of your target client base. ie. lower income band.
Unlike most of the people posting on this thread, I have never had a PNP smart shopper card as I seldom shop there.
Its' totally out of my way and much more expensive than my local stores.
When I do shop there, it will be with a family member and they use their Smart Shopper card.
Now I signed up for a Tymebank card and I know it doubles as a smart shopper card.
Given that you cannot link a smart shopper card after signing up to Tymebank, my Tymebank is not linked to a smart shopper online profile/card as I did not have one at the time of signing up to Tymebank.
My understanding was that the Tymebank card is a Smart Shopper card so why get a regular smart shopper card?
Will I earn any points by swiping my Tymebank card for any purchases at PNP or elsewhere?
If I do, how do I access any points I would accumulate when I shop using the card?
Is it treated as a regular smart shopper card which you can ask the cashier at PNP to spend points off?
There have been issues with your smart shopper programme and points going to anonymous accounts, hence my confusion as to what happens to an unlinked Tymebank card?
Good news indeed but do you know which merchants use it? I've never seen it at checkout at a merchant![]()
EFTsecure – The leading EFT payment solution in South Africa
EFTsecure has become the first solution to add Tyme Bank, Bidvest Bank, Old Mutual Money Account and African Bank to its checkout options.mybroadband.co.za
Sounds like this can be used for e-commerce purchases with a TymeBank card until they enable the functionality.
yip, got 1x R20 off this monthTrue, but Tyme needs to get cash somewhere to pay the rest of us our 9% interest.
Also, is the R20 off Pick n Pay purchases promotion still running? I got 4 smses about it after using my Pick n Pay store account to pay for groceries.

Thanks for the information. As far as I am aware its then treated as a normal smart shopper and you can access your points via that card.just make sure the cashier swipes it or scans ot your smart shopper points if the person you with doesn't have a card.if you just pay with it you'll just benefit from the swiping part at the end of the month.
Thanks for the information. You earn smartshopper points when spending on your card no matter what. You earn 2x points at any PnP
If you never had a smartshopper profile before then there is nothing to link. You can create a smartshopper profile with the smartshopper number on the yellow Tyme Bank.
You don't have to have the blue one but if you ever do get it then it will be linked.
You earn points when ever you swipe. Those points are paid monthly by tyme bank. IF you shop at PnP you get the PnP portion of the points immediately. Make sure to show them the card to scan. You will also get a portion from Tyme for the same purchase at the end of the month.
To spend points you need to have a profile. Since you never had one you card will be anonymous. So register a profile with the smartshopper number on your Tyme Bank card. This profile is you smartshopper points wallet where you can spend it in the PnP app on airtime, discounted vouchers ect or spend points in store at PnP. Just tell them you want to spend points.
Yes it's exactly like the blue card so just ask them you want to see the balance or spend points. You get personalized discounts too so having the PnP app to load those discounts is handy. You can also keep track of your shopping history, points earned for those shops and spend points via the app.
Unlinked or unregistered card are see as anonymous. You can not spend points on them but you can still earn. SO better to make sure it's linked or registered.
Thanks for the information.
Their systems integration with PNP smart shopper and processes appear flawed if you can earn points but not spend them since your profile is seen as anonymous.
Given that you have provided your details to Tymebank as part of the sign up process, most crtitically your id number, surely this should and identifier.
I tried your suggestion of creating a smart shopper profile and linking my Tymebank smart shopper number but it will not allow. Error is: "This card is already registered to another user"
I do not want to spend hours on the line going back and forth to get this resolved. @TymeBank @TymeGuy can you advise?
"We need your email address or username to reset your password." They do not provide a way to just input smart shopper number for retrieving login details.Okay it seems the signup process already created a profile for you. You need to use the forget password on the pnp site to get your details.
Hi guys
A quick update regarding Smart Shopper - as promised, we've sorted out Smart Shopper linking and points for >99% of customers.
Top up points
BP
- For the period January to July 2019, we looked at every card transaction performed. For purchases inside PnP, we calculated how many points you would have earned if you'd both swiped for earn and paid with your TymeBank card (i.e. we assumed that you remembered to use your TymeBank card as a Smart Shopper card with every purchase).
- We then added all the points you were entitled to earn for purchases outside of PnP.
- Finally, we compared the calculated total to the actual points awarded over the 7 month period, and to the extent that the calculated sum exceeded your awards to date, we awarded a once-off tranche of "top up points".
- Your TymeBank card now operates as a Smart Shopper card at BP.
- This means that if you swipe your card to earn at BP, PnP will award 10 SS points per liter, and if you also pay with your TymeBank card, you'll get another 1SS/R3.
- If BP staff tell you this isn't possible, please (politely) tell them that they're wrong - at least one card acquiring device at each BP nationwide is able to read blue SS cards / TymeBank cards.
Registration
There seems to be some confusion regarding the Smart Shopper registration process:
Monthly points
- Customers who join TymeBank at one of our kiosks in PnP or Boxer stores (or upgrade after joining online) will be automatically linked to Smart Shopper.
- If you don't have a Smart Shopper profile linked to your ID, it'll be created for you, and your TymeBank card will be linked to your SS profile.
- If you already have a SS profile linked to your ID, your TymeBank card will be linked to your profile (alongside your blue SS card). SS points can be earned and burned using either card.
- There is no need to register a Smart Shopper profile via PnP's Smart Shopper kiosks or website - in fact, customers who in the past did this before we'd managed to link their TymeBank cards made it much more difficult for PnP and ourselves to sort things out.
- The only scenario where automatic Smart Shopper profile creation/linking will not happen is if you have elected to opt out of participation in the Smart Shopper program during the kiosk onboarding process. You need to confirm twice to opt out and far less than 1% of customers have done this - however, once you have opted out, we do not currently offer a process that allows you to subsequently change your mind and opt in (we will in future, but as always we focus our development efforts on what we believe will have the greatest positive impact for the bulk of our customers).
- Registrations for new customers is working very reliably, but we are still experiencing some issues with card replacements. The realtime registration of the replacement card sometimes fails - we are working on a fix. In the interim, we are running an overnight batch process that identifies cards that have not been successfully linked and forces the linking to occur.
We'll be running some cool promotions over the coming weeks, and we'll also keep you informed regarding new products and enhancements.
- Points earned in August were awarded earlier this week (and you will have received an SMS today).
- The process for calculating points has been streamlined and automated - which should mean that in future we will be awarding points soon after month end.
Cheers!
This might help:Hi guys.
I apologise if this was asked before. I don't really want to read over 100 pages in this thread.
How can I increase the account limits on Tymebank? I sent them an email and they responded to say I can do it at a kiosk.
I got my card today at the kiosk at pnp and chose the second limit option. Think it was 10000 to 40000 Rand.
The limits on my banking profile remain unchanged though.
Any tips or advice would be appreciated.
The high interest rate of Tymebank was the reason I signed up.
Good morning.
Good morning.
Thanks very much. That answers my questions. I'm verified on biometrics and address, so my profile can definitely be increased.
Thanks again
Have a great day.
