Hi everyone, I'm new to this thread. I just heard about Tyme bank and the 10% interest on savings looks very good.

What's the general feeling so far about the service?

I do all my banking with FNB and want to open this specifically for savings. Everyone here happy with Tyme so far?

It's easy and great if you don't run into any bugs in the sign-up process. I think the consensus is that it can get frustrating if you need to speak to a human for whatever reason.

Thanks. Is there a limited balance required for the savings account to prevent it from being closed?

The only limit is that all ten goalsaves can have a combined maximum of R100 000. There's no minimum, but it's worth dropping a few rands into them when you open them so that the interest rates start going up.

I was "lucky" and opened mine with no issues, mainly for the goalsaves, which I am adding to each month.

I keep a little money in the main account and use it for shopping at PnP and for other small purchases. For the most part there are no problems, but every now and then the card gets declined seemingly without pattern, so that is frustrating and a bit inconvenient, but then I just use my std bank cards.

Other than that it does what it says on the tin. No fees, PnP shopper points and goalsaves interest rate climbing.

So I managed to open an account online without any problems. What do I do next to move up to the next level? Go to a PnP? Should I take any documents with?

You gotta go to a PNP with a TymeBank kiosk. It all worked perfectly for me just today: https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/tymebank.1014120/#post-23230702

I didn't need any documents, but I think that's because my fingerprints were recognised by whichever service they used (I have a feeling it might be Home Affairs' own database because I have one of the new biometric-enabled ID cards). I see in the machine there are ports to scan an ID, although it never asked me for that - I just typed in my ID number, verified my cellphone number with SMS, scanned two thumbs, typed in a new physical address (again no verification) and boom, card printed.

Thanks. I'll go to PNP tomorrow. I still have the green ID book so I'm not sure if it will make a difference. I'll carry it with just in case.

Will report back

I didn't open an account beforehand, just walked into PnP to get some things and saw the kiosk.
Followed the instructions and opened the account and got the card.
As @Foxhound5366 said, no Id or any other documents needed as (and it does not seem to work for all) the reading of your fingerprint does all the magic.

If you have a smartshopper card already (in your name and Id no) it might be an idea to take it with you to try and link in the beginning if you can, as many here have had issues trying to "fix" that.
It is supposed to link automatically with your Id no though.

If you goalsave has been open a while, is the % interest calculated on the date of each initial fund(s) investment into that goalsave, or only on length of time since initial depositi.e total capital

e.g if I placed 1000 initially, then 15 days after another 1000, will my interest on day 31 be 7% on 2000 or only initial 1000 and 1000 @ 6% for next 15 days.

@TymeBank @TymeBank_Team @TymeGuy
Would also like to know this. Can anyone answer?

Good luck! You don't need to take your ID book or card with. There is no functionality that can use this.

Just back from PNP Kenilworth. Everything went well. No problems at all. Really impressed with Tyme bank.

Incase people didn't get the SMS today (Sunday 7 April 2019), got that and saw this on Twitter (here) too:

Staying healthy is important – especially for a bank
Our systems will be offline while we do some vital checks between 10pm tonight and 6am tomorrow, and then again during a quick follow-up check from 1:30am to 6am on Tuesday 09.04. Thanks for understanding.
