My son has moved into Madison Square in Morningside. He wants to get an internet connection now and was advised that only Metro Fibre Networx is available at the address.

Does anybody use them at the moment or have knowledge of them ?

These are the packages that are available.

Metro fibre provide the backbone to a number of suburbs including Sunninghill and Kyalami.

I haven't had an issue with their fibre backbone (I use a different ISP).

I did have a long delay before somebody come to install the ONT into my unit - took forever, and then they installed the wrong unit too.

I had them as my backbone prior to moving outside of their coverage. I did however use another ISP - those rates seem pretty high to me.

Metrofibre is just the line provider. Don't worry too much about that, they're a solid company. However, you have multiple ISP's you can choose with better prices. If you have to get the installation done, MF will want you to be with them for 1-3 months. If there's already a line you should be able to go with the alternative ISP's.

I use FireStream and am super happy with the service. They always seem happy to go the extra mile for me.

I'm on Metrofibre line & ISP both and have mostly been quite happy apart from the fact that they really don't seem to have much in the way of a support portal or function so getting help if you have any issues can be a chore involving a lot of guesswork.

Lately (since 2017) I'm getting a lot of random drops for a few seconds to a few minutes at a time that magically resolves itself quickly. This is fine for browsing and streaming but incredibly frustrating for gaming.

Not sure about the open access model thing it seems like some complexes signed exclusive deals with them (why on earth I don't know) and some are proper open access.

All in all, significant improvement from ADSL but room for improvement.

Some of us have been haviung the same issue lofty, the ONT doesn't disconnect but interenet access drops, apparently have something to do with the DNS.

Hopefully MFN sort it out quickly.
