Entolment fee of R2 100 then school-fees of R37k or just over R3k per month.

Then we'll have to opt for the bus which is another R1 100.

My daughter is in grade 9 this year...well she should be, but the closest school to me put her on a waiting list. This despite us having appliedd in February last year when applications opened. I've involved the circuit manager under which the school falls as well as the WCED.
**** that. My son is in Grade 9 and his entire school year cost R1724.25...

Not everyone is good with admin. I have all those docs scanned in on my computer ready for whenever I need it, had to do most of that for their current school when I applied. Left it all in one folder because I'll probably need it again for high school in a few years.
So... 20 minutes then? OK let's go crazy, 1 hour. Double that. 2 hours.
2 hours of admin.
This thread is 4 hours old.

He lives in Kraaifontein, I think the Curro there is cheaper. The curro in Somerset West is much more expensive.

The reason I asked because then it is a sober decision to weigh his option up against Parel Vallei which is a punch above most ‘green suburb’ public schools.

It's either the former Model C schools, or private (or semi-private if you may). If not that then it's McDonalds. Monument Park is the best public school in my immediate vicinity, but we're not seeing eye to eye right now until there's some intervention from the powers up above. So in the meantime I'm trying out Curro Meridian Pinehurst. It's as if my printer knows I'm apprehensive, can't even get the damn thing on.

Bru, I don't even know where's my kids' birth certificates and I might have given it away with that bag of shoes. The wife told me the other day that there were documents in that bag as well.
Bliksem, I thought I do dumb stuff everyday.

Why do you need to print? Just complete, sign and return to sender with phone scanned supporting docs.

Is this in Mfuleni? That doesn't even cover the monthly fees for one of my kids, that would actually just cover the after care fee. Not a single one of the (good) public schools locally by me would ask that little. Or is that in some small town somewhere?

Home schooling. Impaq registration fee. I already had all the coursework and textbooks from another kid in Grade 9 the previous year.

(So, it's a cheat, but a massive win... Even so, regular Impaq with all the text books and so on is around R10k for the year.)

Home schooling is not going to be possible for the OP. Apart from the obvious there's this:

Apply electronically, using the applicable application form, to the head of your Provincial Education Department and attach the following documents with you:

  • parent/s certified ID copy
  • In case of foreign nationals certified copies of passport /study permit/work permit/Asylum document is required
  • last copy of school report (if the child was in school before, but if the child is only starting school now you must attach an immunisation card)
  • weekly timetable which includes contact time per day
  • breakdown of terms per year (196 days per year)
  • learning programme
  • certified copy of child’s birth certificate

Sometimes you put in a little more effort when you have kids.
Sure and we did end up doing a mountain of admin for that.

I'm not one of those that applied to every school in a 50km radius, we looked at 2 and the one gave us grief so we went with the other (public) school.

Just out of curiosity, who teaches your kid/s? And also, does that person have a full time job? What about sports and friends?

My matric was about R2k for the year. Public school is not so bad. Your kid will learn how to dodge bricks that are thrown at them, check the condom for holes, teach themselves math for a few months because the teacher had a breakdown, smoke with the lesbians because let you smoke at least half the cigarette before asking for an entjie. You know, important stuff.

Get back?
So our "deposit" is split into two - half is a levy that you'll never see again, the other half a deposit you might see when you leave the school provided you give like 3 years notice, your kid has a perfect attendance record and probably another levy
Well the one I had in mind had effectively school bonds. So when your kid is born you drop money into the schools bank account to secure a place. And then when the kid matriculates 18 years later you get your money back, except its now worth nothing.

...i.e. separate from the actual admission fees and deposits. If you didn't kick in cash years ahead of admission you can basically forget about getting a place.

Don't recall which school that was...some preppy place in Jhb.
